St. Anthony Completes Boys, Girls Regional Sweep; Three EHS Girls Advance

The St. Anthony High School girls golf team Thursday followed the boys team's lead and won the regional championship, played at Effingham Country Club.

St. Anthony's girls totaled 324 strokes, 40 strokes better than the second place finisher Charleston. 

The Bulldogs' Lauren Schwing was medalist with a 76. Other St. Anthony scores: Ellie Wegman 80, Nina Hakman 81, Addie Krouse 87, Maddy Brummer 93, and Allison Geen 111. 

St. Anthony's squad will play Monday in the Sectional in Auburn. 

Effingham High School's squad finished fourth with a 384 total, just missing an advance to the sectional, but three EHS girls advanced as individuals. They are Ella Niebrugge with a 92, Marah Kirk with a 93, and Elena Niebrugge with a 97.

The team finishes at the regional: St. Anthony 324, Charleston 364, Mattoon 376, Effingham 384, Auburn 401, Shelbyville 428, Waverly 429, Taylorville 455, Teutopolis 479, and Virden North Mac. 

Individual scores for Teutopolis were as follows: Alaina Helmink 109, Abigail Wortman 112, Mollie Koester 129, Amy Schilling 129, Margaret Wente 142, Josie Deters 145.
