St. A Team Advances, EHS, T-town Individuals From Girls Golf Regionals

MOUNT CARMEL -- Effingham St. Anthony High School captured second place in the Mount Carmel Girls Golf Regional to advance to sectional competition Wednesday.

Mount Carmel won the regional title with 313 followed by St. Anthony 327, Effingham 375, Waltonville 394, Teutopolis 406, Harrisburg 412, Altamont 413, Carmi-White County 423, Eldorado 424, Woodlawn 424, McLeansboro Hamilton County 429 and Olney 431.

The top two teams advance along with the top four individuals not members of a qualifying team.

Scoring for the Bulldogs were Macy Ludwig, a senior, with 77, Lauren Schwing, a sophomore, with 82, Reagan Westendorf, a senior, with 83 and Nina Hakman, a junior, with 85. Other scores were Ellie Wegman, a junior, with 85 and Morgan Schuette, a senior, with 93.

Effingham will be sending two individuals on to the Salem Sectional. Ava Boehm and Anna Sigg, both seniors, advanced with a 74 and an 88 respectively. T-town's Averie Bushue, a senior, tallied an 88. The other individual qualifier was McLeansboro Hamilton County's Kylee Vaughan with a 73.

Medalist for the event was Mount Carmel's Lillian Gottman, a sophomore, with a 69. Medals were awarded to the top five individual scores. Along with Gottman were, Madelyn Young (Mount Carmel) 72, Kylee Vaughan (Hamilton County) 73, Ava Boehm (Effingham) 74 and Macy Ludwig (St. Anthony) 77.

The Salem Sectional will be held Monday, October 12.

Class 1A Charleston Regional

Charleston won its own regional with a 377 score followed by Paris 392, Monticello 398, Tuscola 438, Mount Zion 439, Decatur St. Teresa 451, Shelbyville 460, Bethany Okaw Valley 468, Sullivan 477, Villa Grove 491, Maroa-Forysth 529 and Moweaqua Central A&M 523.

Ashley Long of Monticello was medalist with a 77.

Charleston and Paris advance to the Rochester Sectional Thursday, October 15.

Individuals advancing were Ashley Long (Monticello) 77, Emma Houska (Shelbyville) 96, Marley Good (Tuscola) 100, Amelia Patterson (Monticello) 105 and Makenna Fiscus (Tuscola) 105.
