Boehm Medalist, EHS Girls Second, Boys Sixth At Apollo Conference Golf Tourney

Effingham High School's Ava Boehm earned medalist honors in the Apollo Conference Girls Golf Tournament Monday at Lincoln.

Boehm tallied a 76 for the top spot, seven strokes better than the rest of the field. Charleston won the team title with 367 followed by Effingham 376, Teutopolis 410, Mattoon 411, Mahomet-Seymour 423, Taylorville 435, Mount Zion 437 and Lincoln 495.

T-town's Averie Bushue took second with an 83. Mattoon's Callan Haldorsen was third with an 84 before Charleston took the next three spots as Taryn Pearson shot an 88, Hannah Harpster an 88 and Stacey Zerbst a 92. Lincoln's Allison Woolard shot a 93 for seventh and Effingham's Anna Sigg shot a 94 for eighth. Those eight golfers were named All-Apollo Conference.

The Hearts earned the championship last year where Boehm finished second with a 78.

Earning points for the Hearts along with Boehm and Sigg were Annie Frost 101, Ella Niebrugge 105 and Anna Hirtzel 106.

Following the Wooden Shoes' Bushue were Abigail Wortman 16th with a 104, Lexie Niebrugge 21st with a 107 and Mollie Koester 32nd with a 116.

In the boys meet, Mattoon won the team title with 317 followed by Lincoln 342, Charleston 347, Mahomet-Seymour 349, Mount Zion 352, Effingham 362, Teutopolis 393 and Taylorville 397.

Mattoon claimed the top two spots as Stuart Druin and Colton Romine tied for medalist honors with a 76 each. Also earning All-Apollo Conference honors were Lincoln's Dylan Singleton third with a 77, Mattoon's Meade Johnson fourth with a 79, Effingham's Colby Haynes, a sophomore, fifth with an 80, Charleston's Preston Phillips sixth with an 81, Mount Zion's Brent Hansen seventh with an 82 and Mahomet-Seymour's Zach Courson eighth with an 83.

Effingham's top finisher was Haynes with an 80. Also scoring for the Hearts were Preston Latch and Ryker Schneider who tied with a 92 each for 23rd and Max Woelfer 30th with a 98.

Scoring for the Wooden Shoes were Andy Niebrugge 23rd with a 92, Gabe Schlink 30th with a 98, Hayden Jansen 35th with a 100 and Zac Niebrugge 38th with a 103.
