St. A Wins Girls Golf Regional, EHS Third

Effingham St. Anthony golfers show off the hardware they won by claiming the regional golf title.

Effingham St. Anthony and Effingham both advanced from the Class 1A St. Anthony Girls Golf Regional Thursday at the Effingham Country Club.

The Bulldogs won with a 331 followed by Mount Carmel 338, Effingham 348, Highland 408, Breese Central 413, Ramsey 443, Olney 456, Teutopolis 465, Greenville 469, Staunton 481 and Breese Mater Dei 508. Altamont competed but did not have enough members for a team score.

St. Anthony's Macy Ludwig, a junior, was medalist with a 38-38 -- 76. Also scoring for the Bulldogs were Elie Wegman 40-43 -- 83, Reagan Westendorf 41-42 -- 83 and Lauren Schwing 44-45 -- 89.

The top three teams advance. Effingham was led by Ava Boehm 41-41 -- 82, Morgan Krouse 39-45 -- 84, Kennedy Collier 43-43 -- 86 and Anna Sigg 46-50 -- 96.

The top 10 individuals, not members of the top three teams, also advance. T-town's Averie Bushue tallied a 79 and will advance along with Madeline McKinney (Olney), Nyah Schulte (Robinson), Peyton Jeckstadt (Breese Central), Claire Korte (Highland), Gracie Loepker (Breese Mater Dei), Grace McIntyre (Breese Central), Meridith Kleinmann (Highland), Brenna Hayes (Ramsey) and Lillian Barker (Highland).

Advancing teams and individuals will be competing at the Mount Carmel Sectional Monday, October 14. The top three teams and top 10 individuals not members of qualifying teams, will advance to the Class 1A State Tournament Friday, October 18 and Saturday, October 19 at Red Tail Run Golf Course in Decatur.
