ALTON -- Effingham St. Anthony High School placed fifth at the Alton Marquette Catholic Schools Boys Golf Invitational Saturday, held at Spencer T Olin Golf Course near Alton.

Quincy Notre Dame won the team title with 309 followed by Belleville Althoff 319, Breese Mater Dei 322, Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin 330, St. Anthony 340, Wateroo Gibault 349, Alton Marquette 360 and Father McGivney 442.

"Excellent competition at this event," said St. Anthony Coach Phil Zaccari. "Spencer T Olin is a course you need to play a couple of times and we were not familiar with the layout. We struggled a little not knowing where to play our next shot. But we grinded and competed pretty well.

"Every one of us had just one or two bad holes that elevated our scores. We learned a lot about where we are and what we need to do the remainder of the year."

Scoring for the Bulldogs were Ryan Schultz 41-41 -- 82, Jonathan Willenborg 41-44 -- 85, Michael Martelli 42-44 -- 86 and Thomas Chojnicki 40-47 -- 87. Non-counting scores were Luke Flaig 43-45 -- 88 and Jayden Rios 44-46 -- 90.
