St. A Fourth, EHS Eighth at Boys Golf Invite; T-town Falls To Salem

CHAMPAIGN -- The Effingham St. Anthony boys golf team continued its steady start to the season by placing fourth at the John Macek Invitational, held at rainy University of Illinois Orange Golf Course Monday while Effingham claimed eighth place.

The Bulldogs handled the conditions to finish with a 333. Winning was Morton with 321 followed by Hillsboro 324, Bloomington 331, St. Anthony, Champaign Central 336, Mattoon 341, Charleston 342, Effingham 349, Sullivan 352, Monticello 354, Champaign Centennial 373, Urbana 389, Bismarck-Henning 409, Danville 413, Centennial-Navy 420, Taylorville 443 and Judah Christian 480.

Medalist for the event was Bloomington's TJ Barger with a 68. Finishing in the top 10 was Effingham's Tate Niebrugge who claimed ninth place with an 80.

St. Anthony seniors Jayden Rios and Ryan Schultz shot 81s and finished in a three-way tie for 10th place. Sophomore Thomas Chojnicki claimed an 83 to end in a tie for 15th. Finishing out the scoring was Luke Flaig with an 88. Non-counting scores were Jonathan Willenborg 88 and Michael Martelli 89.

Scoring for the Hearts were Niebrugge, Aiden Beck with an 85, Austin Waldhoff with an 87 and Ben Donsbach with a 97. Non-counters were Ryker Schnieder 105 and Ethan Ritz 108.

 

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis played host to Salem and fell to the visiting Wildcats, 193-224.

Salem was led by medalist Jake Hope with a 48. Also scoring were Hunter Russell 50, Isaak Williams 52 and Luke Light 53.

Scoring for the Wooden Shoes were Drew Kerner and Gavin Meyer with a 55 each, Andy Niebrugge with a 56 and Zach Ruholl with a 58. Non-counters were Gabe Schlink 62, Peyton Tegeler 78 and Paul Niemerg 80.
