Bulldogs Claim Crown, Boys Golf Regionals

St. Anthony claimed the champoinship of the Class 1A Robinson Regional Tuesday.

Effingham St. Anthony captured the championship of the Class 1A Robinson Boys Golf Regional at Quail Creek Country Club Tuesday.

The Bulldogs tallied a team total of 320 followed by Carmi 331, McLeansboro 345, Casey-Westfield 368, Mount Carmel 378, Marshall 382, Teutopolis 382, Fairfield 396, Altamont 399, Flora 401, Oblong 410 and Robinson 410.

St. Anthony's Luke Ludwig was medalist with a 73.

"The team played very well today," said St. Anthony Coach Phil Zaccari. "Quail Creek is not an easy track and we had everyone come in under 85. Luke Ludwig played a very solid round of golf today to claim medalist honors. The greens were fast and he putted them very well.

"Zach Wortman shot one of the best rounds of his career to place fourth and Nathan Schultz grinded out an 82 to place in the top five. We are happy with the win today and are looking forward to sectionals at the Effingham Country Club Monday."

The top three teams along with the top 10 individuals not members of those teams, advance to the St. Anthony Sectional Monday at the Effingham Country Club.

Ludwig tallied a 36-37 -- 73 while Wortman scored 39-42 -- 81, Schultz 39-43 -- 82 and Ben Strullmyer 42-42 -- 84. Jayden Rios added 45-39 -- 84 and Luke Flaig 45-40 -- 85.

Altamont's Grant Schmidt advanced as an individual with an 87. He finished tied for 15th in the field.

 

Class 1A Windsor Regional

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg hosted its own regional at the Fox Prairie Golf Course Tuesday.

Winning the regional was Sullivan with a 319 followed by Farmer City-Blue Ridge 364, Bethany Okaw Valley 374, LeRoy 375, Oakland 380, Villa Grove 390, Shelbyville 405, Windsor/Stew-Stras 427, Tuscola 437 and Macon Meridian 466.

Sullivan, Farmer City Blue Ridge and Bethany Okaw Valley advanced as teams. Also advancing were the top 10 players not members of those teams and that included Windsor/Stew-Stras' Eli Howard, a junior, who shot a 93.

Medalist for the regional was Caden Ellis, a senior from Sullivan, with a 73.

Those advancing will head to the Danville Schlarman Sectional at the Danville Country Club Monday.
