St. A Girls Win Windsor Invite, Second In Boys Golf Meet

WINDSOR -- Effingham St. Anthony captured first place in the Windsor Girls Golf Invitational at Fox Prairie Golf Course Saturday.

The Bulldogs had a team score of 325 followed by Effingham 336, Sullivan 407 and Greenville 418.

Scoring for the Bulldogs were Clare McHugh 77, Ava Wegman 78, Reagan Westendorf 83 and Macy Ludwig 87.

Scoring for Effingham were Abbi Burgess 73 who was the medalist, Ava Boehm 85, Kennedy Collier 89 and Morgan Krouse 89. Non-counters were Keira Hirtzel 97 and L. Stephenson 98.

In the boys meet, Hillsboro was the team champion with 309 followed by St. Anthony 325, Sullivan 330, Okaw Valley 330, Effingham 349, Teutopolis 353, Maroa-Forysth 369, Shelbyville 370, Mattoon JV 373, St. Anthony JV 373, Altamont 375, Casey-Westfield 400, Greenville 441 and Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg 444.

Medalis was Hillsboro's Alex Eickhoff with a 74.

Scoring for the second place Bulldogs were Luke Ludwig 77, Nathan Schultz 79, Dylan Ferguson 83 and Ben Strullmyer 86. Non-counters were Zak Wortman 88 and Ethan Rozene 91.

Scoring for fifth place Effingham were Aiden Beck 83, Tate Niebrugge 83, Jacob Sigg 88, Brett Koester 95 and Colby Heaton 108. Ludwig finished fourth overall while Schultz was seventh.

"The boys have really shown a lot of improvement the last three weeks," said EHS Coach Jeff Schafer. "All five kids have shot their lowest career high school rounds in the last week. Jacob and Aiden last week and Tate, Brett and Colby accomplished theirs at this tournament. We still have a lot of upside and can continue to get better these next two weeks and then who knows. We host the regional which might be a difference-maker for us."

In a golf meet last Tuesday, the Hearts shot a 173 total, 12 strokes lower than the next team. Sigg tied for medalist with a 41. Also scoring were Tate Niebrugge 42, Aiden Beck 43 and Brett Koester 47.

St. Anthony's junior varsity team was led by Jayden Rios 82, Alex Erickson 91, Ryan Schultz 93 and Luke Flaig 107. Non-counter was Darin Hutchison 124.

Scoring for Altamont were Grant Schmidt 86, Noah Kopplin 87, H. Fitzjarrald 92 and Nathan Hill 110.

Scoring for Teutopolis were Dylan Buenker 76, Carter Jansen 89, Will Schlink 92 and Michael Deters 96. Non-counters were Asa Hanson 101 and Jacob Herd 105.

 

At Salem

Pinckneyville placed first in Match Play Tournament at the Salem Country Club Saturday.

Pinckneyville won with a team score of 13 followed by Teutopolis and St. Anthony tied for second with 11.5 each, Centralia 9.5 and Salem 6.5.

T-town's Maggie Koester won first place in her division.

 

At Mount Zion

Effingham competed in the Mount Zion Boys Golf Invitational Friday.

The Hearts had two players scoring. Jason Sigg shot a 77 in the scramble and Aiden Beck finished with an 84 in the four ball.
