St. A Girls, T-town Boys Advance as Teams to State In Golf

SALEM -- Effingham St. Anthony High School's girls golf squad finished third at the Class 1A Salem Golf Sectional Monday and advanced as a team to State.

Nashville won the sectional with 332 strokes followed by Metropolis Massac County 346, St. Anthony 358, Effingham 368, Pinckneyville 368, Belleville Althoff Catholic 373, Waterloo 377, Alton Marquette 378, Anna-Jonesboro 380, Columbia 381, Carterville 392 and Mount Carmel 408. Nashville and Metropolis Massac County also advance as teams.

Medalist was Metropolis Massac County's Millie Lawson, a sophomore, with a 76.

Leading the Bulldogs in scoring were Abbie Schmidt with an 84, Clare McHugh with an 88, Ava Wegman with a 93 and Regan Koester with a 93. Non-counting scores were Jessica Coffin 99 and Abby Repking 105.

Effingham finished just one spot away from qualifying as a team but Alex Brummer, a senior, advances as an individual with a score of 80. Other EHS scores were Abbi Burgess 89, Keira Hirtzel 98, Lindsey Stephenson 101, Jade Depoister 104 and Kennedy Collier 108.

Other individuals advancing were Megan Breslin (Pinckneyville), Josie Sykes (Carbondale), Mallory Raber (Mount Carmel), Makensy Umscheid (Waterloo), Meg Schnoeker (Okawville), Maddy Wenzel (Carmi-White County), Sarah Breslin (Pinckneyville),  Bailey Sharpmack (Roxana) and Rorrie House (West Frankfort).

The State Meet will be held this Friday and Saturday at Big Tail Run Golf Course in Decatur.

 

At Robinson

Teutopolis took second place with 328 strokes at the Class 1A Robinson Boys Sectional and will advance along with top finisher McLeansboro Hamilton County with a 327 and third place Hillsboro with a 329.

Following the top three were Mount Carmel 332, Effingham St. Anthony 342, Litchfield 358, Waterloo Gibault Catholic 362, Woodlawn 362, Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran 363, Nashville 370, Red Bud 376 and Goreville 388.

Litchfield's Alex Bishop, a junior, was medalist with a 73.

Scoring for Teutopolis were Christian Deters 73, Dylan Buenker 83, Bradyen Bushue 86 and Keegan Meyer 86. Non-counting scores were Jacob Herd 98 and Will Schlink 100.

Effingham St. Anthony's Luke Ludwig advanced as an individual with a score of 40-41 -- 81. Not advancing for the Bulldogs were Niko Dust 45-41 -- 86, Nathan Schulte 43-44 -- 87, Jacob Schmidt 48-40 -- 88, Trey Koester 45-47 -- 92 and Dylan Ferguson 44-55 -- 99.

Also advancing were Alex Bishop (Litchfield) 73, Blake Golden (Mount Carmel) 74, Nate Caudle (Wayne City) 76, Baylee Modglin (Chester) 78, Dawson Brown (Mount Carmel), 80, Aven Kimmell (Flora) 80, Noah Robinson (Carrollton) 82, Reese Snyder (Raymond Lincolnwood) 83 and Scott Shulman (Vandalia) 83.

The State Meet will be held at Prairie Vista Golf Course in Bloomington this coming Friday and Saturday.
