EHS Girls Take Second at Apollo, St. A Ties For Second at Urbana

Effingham High School finished second in the Apollo Conference girls golf meet Monday. Charleston won the meet with 376 strokes followed by the Hearts 391, Mattoon 434, Salem 507 and Mount Zion 523. Taylorville competed but did not have a team score.

Charleston's Lauren Chappell was medalist with a 77. Effingham's Alex Brummer took second with an 85, Keira Hirtzel sixth with a 98 and Abbi Burgess seventh with 102. Also scoring for the Hearts was Kennedy Collier with a 107. Non-counting were Jade Depoister with a 108 and Lindsey Stephenson 110.

At Urbana

Effingham St. Anthony tallied the same as Bloomington Central Catholic in the Sam Wells Memorial Boys Golf Tournament Monday at the Urbana Country Club but finished second.

St. Anthony and Bloomington Central Catholic had a 234 total each. Champaign St. Thomas More was third with 270 and Danville Schlarman was fourth with a 293.

"This was a special format," said St. Anthony Coach Phil Zaccari. "Invitational teams were allowed to play two individuals in the singles category, one two person betterball team and one two-person scramble team.

"Awards were given out for the low score in each category. The team score included the scores of each category with the lowest individual score making up the total. Bloomington Central Catholic won the team event based on the second individual score. Central Catholics' Tom Egbar shot an 80 with Niko Dust scoring an 81 for us."

Scoring for the Bulldogs were Luke Ludwig 39-39 -- 78 and Niko Dust 40-41 -- 81. Nathan Schultz and Dylan Ferguson combined for 40-42 -- 82 while Jacob Schmidt and Trey Koester combined for 37-37 -- 74.

Low individuals were Varune Chopra of Uni with a 71, Ludwig with a 78 and Parker Wiscom of BCC with a 78. Low better ball was Owen Talbott-Tom Nelson of BCC with a 78. Low Scramble was Schmidt and Koester of St. Anthony with a 74.

 

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis played host to Sullivan in girls golf action and fell to the visiting team, 219-234. Medalist was Sullivan's Tuttle with a 46.

Scoring for the Wooden Shoes were Magee 54, Hoene 55, Thoele 60 and Niebrugge 65. Non-counting scores were Vogt 69 and Koester 70.
