CHARLESTON -- Effingham High School nabbed fourth place in the Charleston Boys Golf Invitational Friday.

Effingham's Callaway Smith was medalist with a 73. Charleston's Ben Ianman took second with 75.

"This was a very positive result for us today," said EHS Coach Jeff Schafer. "We tied our low score for the year for 18 holes and are starting to play better.

"Callaway had another great event, winning the tournament of 80 players with a one-over-par 73. He struck the ball really well today and I'm real happy for him. Ryan Sandifer had his best round of the year as well with an 81 and he had one bad hole but overcame it, really stayed focused and kept his round going. Jacob and Ryan were good today as well. We are going to be back here Monday for conference and in two weeks for regionals so we just have to keep working on how we have to play the holes beter and hope we keep improving."

Effingham's Ryan Sandifer was 15th with an 81. Also scoring were Matt Linders 88 and Jacob Sigg 88. Non-counters were Tate Niebrugge 96 and Aiden Beck 101.

Smith had the longest drive on No. 3.
