DECATUR -- Effingham High School captured a boys golf quadrangular Tuesday at the Southside Country Club in Decatur hosted by Mount Zion.

The Hearts shot a 168 followed by Taylorville 182, Mount Zion 195 and Shelbyville 204.

"This was a really good match for us to build on," said EHS Coach Jeff Schafer. "We had all scores in the 40s or lower and we haven't had that yet this year.

"Callaway was really good again, finishing second by one stroke. Jacob has put together some really solid play lately. Ryan is also playing better and Matt is staying consistent. The two freshmen did a nice job. Aiden had his best high school round of 45 after making a triple bogey on the first hole. He did a great job. We need to carry this forward to Friday when we return here."

Taylorville's Connor Black was medalist with a one-over-par 37.

Effingham was led by Callaway Smith 38, Ryan Sandifer 43, Jacob Sigg 43 and Matt Linders 44. Non-counting were Aiden Beck 45 and Tate Niebrugge 48. The Hearts improve to 5-3.
