St. A Wins Golf Meets, EHS Falls, Altamont Nabs Victory

TUSCOLA -- Effingham St. Anthony High School traveled to Tuscola for both boys and girls golf matches Thursday and both Bulldog teams came away with victories.

In the boys quadrangular, the Bulldogs tallied 180 followed by Tuscola 186, Villa Grove 198 and Salt Fork 230. Tuscola's Seth Icenogle was medalist with a 38 followed in second place by St. Anthony's Zach Wortman with a 40.

Also scoring for the Bulldogs were Luke Flaig 46, Jayden Rios 47 and Ben Strullmyer 47.

In the girls match, St. Anthony won against Tuscola 193-221. Leading the Bulldogs was Ava Wegman with a 45 followed by Clare McHugh 46, Abbie Schmidt 48 and Regan Koester 54. Non-scorers were Abby Repking 57 and Jessica Coffin 64.

Leading Tuscola were Sydnie Hall 52, Clare Ring 55, Olivia Chester 57 and Emma Henderson 57. Non-scorers were Laney Banta 67 and Whitney Root 67.

At Effingham

Charleston came calling and handed Effingham a 150-176 loss at the Effingham Country Club in boys golf Thursday.

Co-medalists were the Trojans' Ben Ianman and Blake Wolfe with a 35 each. Preston Smith and Keegan Gowin had a 40 each. Non-counters were Robert Rardin 42, Ethan Dow 45, Seth Boone 46 and Zack Will 51.

Scoring for the Hearts were Callaway Smith 36, Jacob Sigg 44, Matt Linders 48 and Ryan Sandifer 48. Non-counters were Tate NIebrugge 48, Aiden Beck 49, Nate Linders 50, Austin Waldhoff 51, Tommy Hortenstine 60, Colby Heaton 60 and Clayton Florida 64.

The Hearts drop to 2-3 on the season while Charleston is now 14-0.

 

At Altamont

Altamont picked up a victory over Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg, 183-197.

Medalists were Altamont's Dylan Miller, Grant Schmidt and Noah Kopplin with a 43 each. Also scoring was Austin Wendling with a 54. Non-counters were Harrison Fitzjarrald 56 and Addie Smith 59.

Scoring for Windsor/Stew-Stras were Sterling Howard 47, Zach Van Hyfte 48, Logan Greuel 50 and Owen Bridges 52. Non-counters were Logan Stremming 54 and Katie Greuel 54.

Junior varsity scores for Altamont were Nathan Hill 56, Gage Sattler 58 and Eli Howard 60. Girls scores for Altamont were Ashley Goeckner 62 and Violet Wendling 70.
