TAYLORVILLE -- Effingham High School's boys golf squad finished third at the Taylorville Meet Saturday.

Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin won the meet with 313 followed by Chatham Glenwood 322, Effingham 323, Lincoln 332, Maroa-Forsyth 357, Hillsboro 361, Williamsville 374, Taylorville 375, Jacksonville 396 and Springfield Southeast 424.

"The third place finish was a good showing for us but second was within a stroke," said EHS Coach Jeff Schafer. "Jackson Wernsing continued his tear shooting a one-under-par 71. A phenomenal round. One of our players made the comment, "that course is so hard, Jackson should be on FOX News for shooting a 71." That is how good it was. Jake Spraul had a solid 81. Our seniors will be there Tuesday when we need them. There is no looking back now."

Wernsing finished with a 35-36 -- 71 followed by Jake Linders 43-38 -- 81, Anthony Lechman 45-39 -- 84, Anthony Barrett 44-43 -- 87 and Sean Sandifer 46-49 -- 95.

Effingham's junior varsity scores included Brandon Dahnke 46-50 -- 96, Reed Schafer 51-51 -- 102, Michael Woltman 64-59 -- 123 and Bob Zerrusen 66-60 -- 126.
