CHARLESTON -- Effingham finished second in a triangular boys golf meet Thursday at the Charleston Country Club.

Charleston won the meet with 154 followed by Effingham 162 and Casey-Westfield 211. The Hearts' Callaway Smith and Charleston's Ben Iamman were co-medalists with a 35 each.

Also scoring for the Hearts were Matt Linders 39, Reed Schafer 44 and Jacob Sigg 44.

"Callaway had a really good round tonight," said EHS Coach Jeff Schafer. "His course management skills are just far above a high school golfer. Matt Linders played his best varsity nine holes. We need Matt to contend later. Jacob also played a good round. We need Reed and Ryan to step it up for us to compete this weekend at Mattoon."

At Tuscola

Effingham St. Anthony junior varsity boys finished second in a meet Thursday. Tuscola won the meet with a 189 followed by St. Anthony 194, Salt Fork 201, St. Anthony girls 205, Tuscola girls 223, V-G-H 226 and Salt Fork girls 64.

Tuscola's Strader Jones, St. Anthony's Zach Wortman and Salt Fork's Connor Owens all shot a 46. Also scoring for the Bulldogs were Dylan Ferguson 47, Trey Koester 48 and Ethan Rozene 53.

Scoring for the St. Anthony girls were Abbie Schmidt and Ava Wegman with a 49 each, Kyla Burton 52 and Clare McHugh 55.

At Tuscola

At St. Elmo

Altamont claimed a victory over Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg Thursday, 163-201.

The Indians' Adam Mayhaus and Windsor/Stew-Stras' Tristan Warner tallied a 38 each but Neoga's Luke Baker was medalist with a 32.

Scoring for Altamont with Mayhaus were Logan Deadmond 41, Luke Behl 41 and Grant Schmidt 43. Non-counters were Cameron Jackman 45 and Noah Kopplin 51. Altamont is now 7-2 on the season.

Scoring along with Warner for WSS were Katie Gruel 51, Zach VanHyfte 55 and Logan Stremming 57. Non-counters were Sterling Howard 59 and Luke Gilbert 62.

Altamont JV and girls scores were Dylan Miller 46, Logan Sims 57, Harrison Fitzjarrold 61, Garner Myers 66, Austin Wendling 67, Jaci Quast 68 and Addie Smith 70.

 

At Paris

The Wooden Shoes competed against Charleston and Paris and finished second in a girls meet Thursday.

Charleston won with 183 followed by T-town 224 and Paris 232. Charleston's Lauren Chappell was medalist with a 34.

Scoring for Teutopolis were Katie Thoele 54, Madison Magee 55, Allie Niebrugge 55 and Maddie Hoene 60.
