Jackson Wendling

Freshman Jackson Wendling was selected Big Ten Golfer of the Week Wednesday for his performance at the Ballyneal Challenge. Wendling fired an even par 142 en route to a fourth place finish.

Wendling, an Effingham native, competed as an individual for NU Tuesday at the Ballyneal Challenge. The accounting major opened the day with a 72 before carding a second round one-under par 70. Wendling led the Huskers at Holyoke, Colorado’s Ballyneal Golf Club, a par 71, 7,131-yard configuration. This is the first time a Husker has won Big Ten Golfer of the Week since Feb. 27, 2013, when Kolton Lapa earned the accolades as a freshman.

Wendling attended Effingham High School, where he was a three-time All-Apollo Conference honoree. This summer, Wendling fired 71, 70 and 69 at the PGA Jr. Qualifier en route to a fourth place finish at 6-under par. Teammates Clayton Peterson and Jace Guthmiller also competed as individuals on Tuesday. The Huskers continue their fall campaign at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate Sept. 13-14 in Normal.
