Eric Whitaker Earns Millikin University Football Awards

DECATUR -- Millikin University’s football team has named its 2013 varsity letter and award winners.

The team also named its award winners for the 2013 campaign. Junior running back Sean Dunning (Decatur, St. Teresa H.S.) was named the team’s Most Valuable Offensive Player and Offensive Back of the Year while freshman cornerback Jowonis Edwards (Normal, Normal Community H.S.) earned the Most Valuable Defensive Player Award, Defensive Back of the Year and Most Valuable Freshman-Defensive. Punter junior Grant Shreve (Zionsville, Ind., H.S.) earned the Most Valuable Special Teams Player Award.

Senior offensive lineman Eric Whitaker (Shumway, Effingham H.S.) won the team’s Blue Helmet Award and was named the Big Blue’s Offensive Lineman of the Year. He also earned a letter. Freshman Travis Goveia (Downs, Tri-Valley H.S.) was named the Defensive Lineman of the Year. Sophomore Taylor Sanders (Marshall, H.S.) was the Big Blue’s Wide Receiver/Tight End of the Year. Sophomore Jake Gates (Mattoon, H.S.) was the Millikin Linebacker of the Year. CJ Baker (Rochester, H.S.) won the Most Valuable Freshman-Offense Award.

Millikin’s Offensive Scout Team Award went to freshman wide receiver Avante Meriwether (Maryland Heights, Mo., Parkway Central H.S.) and offensive lineman Glenn Morgan (Elmhurst, York H.S.).  Freshman Caleb Belcher (Goreville, H.S.) was named the Defensive Scout Team Player of the Year.
