Lions Escape With Win Over Cowboys

(Detroit, MI) -- Matthew Stafford found Calvin Johnson 14 times and rushed for the game tying touchdown with 12 seconds left to help the Lions nip the Cowboys 31-30 at Ford Field. Johnson says he and Stafford were locked in on the same page.

The point after attempt gave the Lions the lead following Stafford's one-yard TD run. Johnson finished with a touchdown and 329 receiving yards, which is the second most all-time in a single game. Stafford ended with the TD pass, two picks and 488 yards. Reggie Bush rushed for a TD and 92 yards for Detroit, which improved to 5-3. Tony Romo completed under 50-percent of his passes while throwing for 206 yards and three TDs for Dallas, which dropped to 4-4. Dez Bryant had three catches for 72 yards and two scores in defeat. Sean Lee had a game-high 10 tackles and two interceptions for the Cowboys.

 

Chiefs Stay Unbeaten Against Browns

(Kansas City, MO) -- Alex Smith tossed for 225 yards and two touchdowns to pace the Chiefs to a 23-17 win over the Browns at Arrowhead Stadium.  Jamaal Charles rushed for 74 yards on 18 carries for Kansas City, which improved to 8-and-0 on the season.  Charles also had five catches for 46 yards and has crossed 100 total yards in all eight wins. Dexter McCluster had seven catches for 67 yards and a TD. Jason Campbell threw for 293 yards and two TDs for Cleveland, which dropped to 3-5. Campbell got the start for Brandon Weeden, who got benched during the week. Josh Gordon had five catches, 132 yards and a touchdown in defeat.

 

Patriots Rally Past Dolphins

(Foxboro, MA) -- The Patriots scored the final 24 points of the game to rally and down the Dolphins 27-17 in Foxboro. Tom Brady threw for 116 yards, a touchdown and an interception for New England, which trailed 17-3 at the half and rebounded to improve to 6-2 and 4-0 at home this season. Stevan Ridley and Brandon Bolden each rushed for a TD while Aaron Dobson hauled in the touchdown pass. Ryan Tannehill threw for 192 yards, two scores and a pair of picks for Miami, which slipped to 3-4. Daniel Thomas rushed for 47 yards and a had a touchdown reception in the loss.

 

Saints Slam Bills

(New Orleans, LA) -- Drew Brees passed for 332 yards and five touchdowns to power the Saints to a 35-17 win over the Bills in the Big Easy.  Kenny Stills had three catches for 129 yards and two touchdowns for New Orleans, which improved to 6-and-1 and 4-and-0 at home. Jimmy Graham also had two TDs while Lance Moore had the other. Graham returned after the Saints bye, but was limited by a foot injury. Thad Lewis threw for 234 yards to go with a TD and an interception for Buffalo, which dropped to 3-and-5 overall. Fred Jackson rushed for 45 yards and a score while Stevie Johnson had seven catches for 72 yards and a touchdown.

 

Field Goals Power Giants Over Eagles

(Philadelphia, PA) -- The Giants used five Josh Brown field goals to sink the Eagles 15-7 at Lincoln Financial Field. Brown hit from 40, 44, 33, 46, and 27 yards out for New York, which improved to 2-6. Eli Manning tossed for 246 yards to become the franchise's all-time leader in that category, surpassing Phil Simms. Peyton Hillis rushed for a game-high 70 yards for the G-Men. Michael Vick threw for 31 yards and an interception prior to leaving with a hamstring injury. Matt Barkley filled in, going 17-of-26 for 158 yards and a pick. Najee Goode returned a fumble two yards for a TD for Philadelphia, which slipped to 3-5.

 

Niners Slam Jags In London

(London, England) -- Colin Kaepernick threw for 164 yards and a touchdown to help the 49ers top the Jaguars 42-10 in London. He added 54 yards and a pair of TDs on the ground for San Francisco, which improved to 6-2. Frank Gore ran for 71 yards and two touchdowns in the win. Dan Skuta returned a fumble 47 yards for a score for the Niners. Chad Henne threw for 228 yards and a score for Jacksonville, which slipped to 0-8. Mike Brown had three catches for 43 yards and the TD in defeat.

 

Bengals Blow Out Jets

(Cincinnati, OH) -- Andy Dalton connected with Marvin Jones in the endzone four times as the Bengals demolished the Jets, 49-9, at Paul Brown Stadium.  Jones finished with eight catches and 122 yards in addition to the four touchdowns. Dalton added on another TD to Jermain Gresham and threw for 325 yards. Dalton has crossed the 300-yard mark in three consecutive games with 11 TDs and two interceptions. Cincinnati improved to 5-2. New York quarterback Geno Smith threw two picks, both of which were taken to the house. Adam Jones and Cris Crocker were the beneficiaries. Nick Folk made all three field goals. Folk is 19-for-19 on the season. The Jets are 4-4 and have alternated wins in losses across their eight games.

 

Raiders Hold Off Steelers

(Oakland, CA) -- Ninety-three of Terrelle Pryor's 106 rushing yards came on the longest touchdown run in NFL history by a quarterback and the Raiders held on for a 21-18 win over the Steelers in Oakland. The Raiders ended their streak of ten straight losses after a bye  Darren McFadden ran for a pair of touchdowns and 73 yards on 24 carries as Oakland improved to 3-4. Ben Roethlisberger completed 29-of-45 passes for 275 yards and a touchdown but threw a pair of interceptions in the loss for Pittsburgh. Emmanuel Sanders had 88 receiving yards and a touchdown as the Steelers dropped to 2-5.

 

Broncos Explode In Fourth Quarter For Win

(Denver, CO) -- The Broncos scored 31 fourth-quarter points to erase a 21-7 deficit and blow out the Redskins 45-21 at Sports Authority Field.  Peyton Manning completed 30-of-44 passes for 354 yards and four touchdowns but threw three interceptions and lost a fumble. Four different receivers caught touchdown passes for Denver, which improved to 7-1. Rookie Montee Ball ran for his first NFL touchdown and cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie returned an interception 75 yards for another score. Washington quarterback Robert Griffin the Third threw for 132 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions, but left the game with a knee injury in the third quarter and did not return. Kirk Cousins came on and threw two picks. Alfred Morris ran for 93 yards and a touchdown as Washington fell to 2-5.

 

Cardinals Dominate Falcons

(Glendale, AZ) -- Andre Ellington rushed for 154 yards on 15 carries including an 80-yard touchdown as the Cardinals rocked the Falcons 27-13 at University of Phoenix Stadium. Ellington's 80-yard TD run in the second quarter was the longest rushing score by a Cardinals player since 2010.  Carson Palmer overcame an early interception and threw a pair of touchdowns and finished with 172 yards passing. Larry Fitzgerald and Michael Floyd each hauled in scores from Palmer as Arizona moved to 4-4. The Cards picked off Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan four times, two from safety Rashad Johnson. Ryan finished 34-of-61 for 301 yards passing. Harry Douglas caught 12 passes for 121 yards as Atlanta dropped to 2-and-5.

 

Packers Pound Vikings On "Sunday Night Football"

(Minneapolis, MN) -- The Packers held onto first place in the NFC North with a 44-31 spanking of the Vikings behind two Aaron Rodgers touchdown passes to Jordy Nelson. The first connection was for seven yards and the second went for 76. Nelson finished with seven catches for 123 yards.  Rodgers was an efficient 24-for-29 with 285 yards and no turnovers. Eddie Lacy grinded out 94 rushing yards on 29 carries and scored a TD.  Green Bay is 5-and-2, a half-game ahead of the Lions. Cordarrelle Patterson returned the opening kickoff 109 yards for a touchdown while Christian Ponder completed 14-of-21 passes for 145 yards with one rushing TD making his return to the lineup. It was Ponder's first action since Week Three. Adrian Peterson ran for 60 yards and hit pay dirt as Minnesota fell to 1-6.

 

Bears Enjoy Weekend Off

(Lake Forest, IL) -- Bears players enjoyed yesterday watching the NFL slate while on their bye week. Chicago returns to practice today to prepare for next Monday night's game at Green Bay. The Bears find themselves at 4-3, a half-game back of the Lions for second and one game back of the Packers for first place.

 

Seahawks, Rams Rumble On "MNF"

(St. Louis, MO)  --  NFC West rivals meet this week on "Monday Night Football" as the division-leading Seattle Seahawks take on the St. Louis Rams at the Edward Jones Dome.  It's the second straight divisional road game for Seattle, which is coming off a 34-22 win at Arizona in Week Seven.  The Seahawks are 6-and-1 overall, including 3-and-1 on the road.  Their only loss came in Week Five at Indianapolis.  The Rams suffered a 30-15 setback at Carolina in Week Seven to dip below .500 at 3-and-4.  More importantly, they lost quarterback Sam Bradford to a season-ending ACL injury.  Kellen Clemens will start this week for St. Louis.  The Rams beat the Seahawks at home last season, but have lost four of the last five meetings overall.

 

Dolphins' Pouncey Served In Aaron Hernandez Case

(Foxborough, MA) -- Miami Dolphins center Mike Pouncey was served a grand jury subpoena by Massachusetts State Police following yesterday's loss to the New England Patriots.  Pouncey is viewed as a witness in a gun trafficking case against former Pats star Aaron Hernandez. The two played together in college at Florida.
