Super Bowl Champs Open Preseason With Win

(Tampa, FL) -- The reigning Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens scored 24 points in the second quarter and cruised to a 44-16 victory over the Buccaneers in Tampa. Joe Flacco was 7-for-9 with 57 yards and an interception while Tyrod Taylor threw for 154 yards and two scores for the Ravens.  Baltimore head coach John Harbaugh says they can't look back at last season since they are not the same team.

A defense without Ray Lewis and Ed Reed pulled in three interceptions and allowed under 300 total yards.  Their Super Bowl counterpart did not fair as well. The San Francisco 49ers lost 10-6 to the Denver Broncos in their opener.

Cleveland Browns 27, St. Louis Rams 19

(Cleveland OH) -- Brandon Weeden won over some of his critics and got a skeptical town fired up about the season with an impressive preseason debut against the Rams Thursday night. Weeden did everything he set out to do in the first exhibition game - a 27-19 Browns victory at FirstEnergy Stadium -- and then some. In two series of work, he completed 10 of 13 attempts for 112 yards and a two-yard touchdown pass to Dion Lewis. By the time he gave way to Jason Campbell after the first play of the second quarter, he had put 10 points on the board on a field goal and the TD.

NFL Preseason Continues

The NFL preseason continue tonight. Among the matchups are the Patriots facing the Eagles, the Jets playing the Lions and the Cowboys taking on the Raiders. Last night, the reigning Super Bowl champion Ravens blasted the Buccaneers, 44-16.  The Bengals were also big winners, dropping the Falcons, 34-10. The NFC champion 49ers didn't get much going in a 10-6 loss to the Broncos.

Steelers WR Burress Has Tear In Shoulder

The Steelers could be without wide receiver Plaxico Burress for the rest of the season.  NFL.com reports Burress tore his rotator cuff in his right shoulder and will likely need season-ending surgery. Burress is in his second season back with the Steelers after spending 2011 with the New York Jets. Burress spent his first five years with the Steelers before heading to the New York Giants for four seasons.
