The Pittsburgh Steelers and Tennessee Titans were the winners Monday night in the first ‘Monday Night Football’ games of the season.

After missing the last 14 games of last season after elbow surgery, quarterback Ben Roethlisbrger led the Steelers to a 26-16 win over the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium. In Denver, the Titans topped the Broncos 16-14. Stephen Gostokowski kicked the winning 25-yard field goal with 17 seconds left, after missing four kicks in the game.

NFL Players Make Social Justice Statements

NFL players again made social justice statements last night. Before the game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New York Giants, the Steelers held a white banner that read “Steelers Against Racism” during the national anthem. Several players held their fists in the air.
About 20 Giants players kneeled during the anthem. In the Denver Broncos-Tennessee Titans game, 20 Broncos and 12 Titans kneeled during the anthem. A few Denver players stood with a raised fist instead.

Coaches, Personnel Must Wear Fact Coverings

The NFL Monday reminded teams that personnel on the sidelines, including coaches, must wear face coverings during games. Players are exempt. The reminder came after team members other than players weren’t wearing masks during several games Sunday. The memo said if the guidelines aren’t followed, it could put the season “at risk.”
