CHAMPAIGN -- Nebraska tallied a 42-38 victory over the University of Illinois in the Big Ten Conference opener Saturday.

Nebraska quarterback Adrian Martinez carried the ball 18 times for a total of 188 yards and nailed passers for three touchdowns and 327 total yards.

Illinois held a 21-14 lead at halftime but Nebraska tied the contest at 35-35 in the fourth quarter then scored the winning touchdown.

Illinois' Brandon Peters hit nine of 22 passes for 78 yards, a touchdown and an interception. Reggie Corbin carried the ball 20 times for 134 yards and a touchdown.
