The Effingham Hearts look to improve to 3-0 on the high school football season, traveling to Jerseyville Friday night to take on the Panthers.

Kickoff is at 7pm. Hear the contest on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com

Effingham opened their season with a win at Breese Mater Dei 32-28, trailing by 11 when weather interrupted the game Friday night and then outscoring the Knights 15-0 on Saturday afternoon to post the comeback win.

Last Friday, Effingham dealt Lincoln a 46-7 loss in their home and Apollo Conference opener.

This week, the Hearts take on a Jerseyville squad that is 1-1 on the campaign, winning their opener over Granite City 23-14, then losing last week to Marion 24-17. This will be the home opener this season for Jerseyville.

Effingham is getting a lot of production from senior quarterback Nathan Shackelford, who is averaging 300 yards per game with a high completion percentage. His top target has been Tristin Duncan, but he has several potential receivers. The Hearts are also rushing for 150 to 200 yards per game with Logan Brown and Chase Woomer gaining most of the yardage.

Effingham and Taylorville are tied for eighth in this week's Class 4A football poll.
