Effingham High School has played three freshman and freshman/sophomore football games.

The Hearts beat Taylorville 30-14 in freshman action August 31. Zac Slifer had a 12 yard run. with Beau Hefner kicking the extra point in the first quarter. Taylorville scored on an eight yard run and the two point conversion failed.

In the second period, Jakob Logan crossed the goal from three yards out for the Hearts. Tristin Duncan then scored back-to-back touchdowns. He pulled in a 28 yard pass from Jacob Stoneburner and Hefner's kick was good. He then intercepted and ran back 70 yards for the score with a Hefner kick.

In the fourth quarter,  Hefner kicked a 20-yard field goal. Taylorville then scored on a 38 yard pass reception and the two point converstion was good.

EHS Rushing -- Prince, 8 for 38 yards; Logan, 6 for 28 yards; Slifer, 3 for 27 yards; Kihne, 4 for 22 yars

Passing -- Stoneburner 1 of 3 for 28 yards, 1 touchdown; Thompson, 1 of 2 for 9 yards.

Receiving -- Duncan, 1 for 28 yards, 1 touchdown; Briggerman, 1 for 9 yards

Tackles -- Herboth 12, Woomer 7, Stoneburner 4

 

In a freshman contact September 7, the Hearts fell to Mount Zion 30-14. EHS' Stoneburner scored in the first quarter on a one yard run. Hefner kicked the extra point.

In the second period, Mount Zion tied the game on a one yard run. The Hearts moved ahead 14-8 going into half on a Logan two yard run and a Hefner kick.

It was all Mount Zion in the second half as the Braves scored on a 23 yard run with a two point conversion in the third period. In the final quarter, the Braves crossed the goal from 31 yards out and on a 95 yard interception return with the two point conversion.

In a freshman/sophomore contest September 16, Effingham blanked Lincoln 27-0.

The Hearts scored a touchdown in the opening quarter as Wyatt Smith plunged across from one yard out. Hefner kicked the extra point.

In the third period, Duncan pulled in a 13 yard pass from Stoneburner and Hefner kicked the extra point. Mason Hasty went across from two yards out.

In the final period, Duncan pulled in an interception and went 50 yards for the score with a Hefner kick.
