For the second straight week, the Effingham Hearts fell behind early in a football game. This week, though, the Hearts came back to post a win.

In a wild one at Taylorville, the Hearts defeated the Tornadoes 50-37 in a game heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com

With the win, the Hearts are even on the season at 1-1 and 1-0 in the Apollo Conference. Taylorville is also 1-1 and 0-1 in the conference.

Taylorville scored its first two possessions on touchdown passes of 73 yards and 86 yards, each on the first play of those possessions. Tornadoes quarterback Brandon Odam also threw touchdown strikes of 68 yards and 30 yards, and the Tornadoes took the lead. The Hearts kept clawing back, though, and trailed 24-17 at halftime.

The second half was a different story, though. Odam threw no more touchdown passes, although the Tornadoes scored two more times on rushing plays.

The Hearts' second half, meanwhile, produced 33 points including a better than nine minute drive that featured 17 plays in the fourth quarter that gave Effingham a 13-point lead with about two minutes left.

After suffering too many turnovers in their opener, Efingham was the takeaway team last night. Kody Line, Terrence Hill and Jordan McCabe each had an intercepted pass with Line running his back for a touchdown. Hill had a 91-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.

Here's a look at the numbers:

Effingham netted 64 yards in the first half; then netted 189 yards in the second half.

Individually, Terrence Hill had another big game, rushing for 202 yards and two touchdowns. Landon Wolfe was 9 for 17 passing for 55 yards and a touchdown. Wolfe also carried the ball for a one-yard rushing touchdown.

Odam wound up with 473 passing yards and four touchdowns for Taylorville.

The Hearts head to Mt. Zion for more Apollo Conference play next Friday at 7pm in action to hear on 979XFM.
