Tampa Bay's Jameis Winston is making strides as an NFL quarterback. He now has a home victory to build on. Monday's 25-11 preseason victory over the Cincinnati Bengals might not count in the standings, but it was welcomed by a team trying to change the culture of a franchise that hadn't posted a win -- exhibition or regular season -- at Raymond James Stadium since 2013.

Winston was nearly flawless on Tampa Bay's first possession. He went 3-for-3 passing and scored on a 1-yard touchdown run to finish an 80-yard drive that set the tone for a tough night for the Bengals (1-1), who yielded 52 rushing yards to Doug Martin along the way.

Winston limped off the field, done for the night, two plays after appearing to tweak his right ankle when he was sacked by Geno Atkins and Wallace Gilberry early in the second quarter. The rookie remained on the sideline and cheered when Mike Glennon threw a 22-yard TD pass to Russell Shepard for a 20-0 lead. In four series, he was 8-of-13 for 90 yards and no interceptions.

Rams' Gurley Cleared To Practice

For the first time since he was drafted with the No. 10 overall pick in April, St. Louis Rams running back Todd Gurley has been cleared to participate in all aspects of practice.

Rams coach Jeff Fisher announced Monday evening that Gurley will be able to expand his practice regimen to include seven-on-seven and team drills beginning this week.

To this point, Gurley, who is recovering from a torn left ACL suffered in November, has been limited to individual work and spending the bulk of practices on the sideline with the athletic training staff.

Gurley's return to practice is the next logical step in his recovery, and it comes at the halfway point of the preseason. The Rams lost 27-14 to the Tennessee Titans on Sunday in the second preseason game.
