EHS JV Football Squad Downs Charleston

The Effingham junior varsity football squad traveled to Charleston and claimed a 27-6 victory Monday evening. The win allows the Hearts to even their record at 1-1.

Effingham held a 14-0 lead at halftime with two second quarter scores. The first came on a one yard run by Lane Koenig, the extra point attempted was blocked. The Hearts then scored on an 11 yard run by Terrence Hill. The two point conversion was successful as Lucas Vasquez found Harrison Smith in the back of the end zone.

After a scoreless third quarter Charleston got on the board with a short run to make the score 14-6 after a failed two point conversion attempt. Effingham responded with an 18 yard touchdown by Koenig who found room around the left side to make the score 20-6. The final score came on a 23 yard run by Alex Ramos, with Hudson Graham adding an extra point.

Effingham was led in tackles by Caleb Martin with 13 and Ramos with 12. Ramos, Graham and Blake White all had an interception to help the Hearts defense control the game.

The Hearts ground attack picked up 215 yards on 23 carries by seven different players. Hill and Gabe Herron led the attack with 79 and 78 yards respectfully.
