Junior High Cross Country Sectionals, Area Runners To State

The area will be well represented at the junior high state cross country meets after sectional action during the weekend.

Effingham St. Anthony is sending both the boys and girls teams to State after the Bullpups won the boys Class 1A Champaign Holy Cross Sectional and the girls squad captured third place.

The top three teams advance to State along with individuals not members of those quailfying teams.

St. Anthony boys won with 41 points followed by Champaign St. Matthew 51, Champaign Holy Cross 85, Urbana University 152, Champaign Next Generation 174, Villa Grove 108, Sigel St. Michael 233, Champaign Judah Christian 233, Potomac 246, Champaign International 247, Bement 270, Danville Schlarman 275, Georgetown La Salette 277 and Chrisman Scottland 370.

St. Anthony's Isaac Fallert took second place with a time of 11:26. Also scoring for the Bullpups were Connor Storm eighth in 12:01.4, Charlie Bierman 11th in 12:06.9, Camden Bloemer 12th in 12:09.7 and Blake Verdeyen 20th in 12:25.8.

Homer Heritage's Clark Roland won the meet with a time of 10:44.9.

Effingham Sacred Heart's Daniel Ramos captured 10th place with a time of 12:05.3 and also will advance to State.

In the girls meet, St. Anthony placed third with 92 points. Champaign Holy Cross won with 50 points followed by Champaign St. Matthew 71, St. Anthony, Bement 138, Champaign International 155, Kansas 166, Potomac 172, Sigel St. Michael 174, Danville Schlarman 176, Urbana University 222 and Champaign Judah Christian 284.

Effingham Sacred Heart's Isabella Keller won the sectional championship with a time of 11:54.3 and will advance to State.

St. Anthony's top finisher was Nora Trupiano in second place with a time of 12:23.0. Also scoring for the Bullpups were Nora Niebrugge 12th in 13:17.5, Reese Hoene 29th in 14:26.4, Hannah Frisbie 30th in 14:26.7 and Addison Jones 31st in 14:28.8.

Class 1A Carrollton St. John Sectional

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City's boys advanced as a team at the Carrollton St. John Sectional.

Winning the boys meet was Springfield Christian with 45 points followed by Franklin 48, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 63, Liberty 100, Jacksonville Our Saviour 118, Findlay Okaw Valley 167, East St. Louis Young 215 and Assumption Central A&M 216.

Winning the individual title was Franklin's Marshall Bowman with a time of 11:16.3.

CHBC's Griffin Vaughn took third in 11:32.1. Also scoring for CHBC were Slade Rauch ninth in 12:20.2, Hayden Sarver 12th in 12:25.6, Deacon Sutter 18th in 12:52.3 and Kaisyn Calame 28th in 13:42.7.

In the girls meet, Liberty won the sectional with 23 points followed by Jacksonville Our Saviour 80, Franklin 84, Springfield Christian 96, Virginia 107, Findlay Okaw Valley 125, Carrollton St. Johns 205 and East St. Louis Young 215.

Liberty's Weslee John won the meet with a time of 12:34.4.

Class 2A Shelbyville Moulton Sectional

Jasper County placed second in the 2A Shelbyville Moulton Girls Sectional and will advance as a team.

Shelbyville Moulton won its own sectional with 38 points followed by Jasper County 82, Marshall 89, Clinton 98, Sullivan 103, Robinson Nuttall 110, Teutopolis 182 and Decatur Johns Hill 216.

Shelbyville Moulton's Leah Shoaff won with a time of 12:51.30.

Jasper County's Avery Geier got 12th in 13:45.54 followed by Heather Bergbower 13th in 13:47.48. Brook Gentry 17th in 14:10.25, Ashtyn Ochs 22nd in 14:24.41 and finishing out the scoring Kate Bierman 33rd in 14:57.58.

In the boys meet, Paris Mayo won with 63 points followed by Robinson Nuttall 70, Shelbyville Moulton 84, Clinton 112, Teutopolis 130, Sullivan 179, Cumberland 194, Jasper County 234, North Clay (Louisville) 280 and Marshall 299.

Advancing for the boys from the area were Cumberland's Aiden Vaughn and Cameron Roedl. Roedl finished second with a time of 11:17.75 while Vaughn was 11th in 12:18.82.

Winning the title was Warren Weekly of Shelbyville Moulton in 11:15.10.

Class 3A Mahomet-Seymour Sectional

Three runners from Effingham will be competing at the Class 3A State Meet after qualifying Saturday at the Mahomet-Seymour Sectional.

Emery Spicer finished in third place for the girls in 12:30.8 and Drew Weis captured sixth place in 12:42.2. Both of them advance.

Winning the girls meet was Mahomet-Seymour with 60 points followed by Bloomington 84, Bloomington Evans 110, Normal Kingsley 129, Effingham 144, Normal Parkside 146, Mount Zion 163, Champaign Edison 165, Urbana 182, Normal Chiddix 268, Charleston 269, Champaign Jefferson 381, Mattoon 398, Champaign Franklin 413 and Danville North Ridge 475.

In the boys meet, Mahomet-Seymour won with 65 points followed by Normal Parkside 77, Urbana 121, Charleston 125, Normal Chiddix 137, Normal Kingsley 159, Champaign Edison 179, Mount Zion 184, Effingham 196, Champaign Jefferson 263, Bloomington Evans 309, Champaign Franklin 314, Bloomington 328, Danville North Ridge 459, Mattoon 477 and Stephen Decatur 534.

Effingham's Gage Kinder will represent the boys team after finishing seventh with a time of 11:24.8.

State Meets

The State cross country meets are scheduled for Saturday at Normal Parkside in Normal.

The Class 3A State meet schedule is 9:30 a.m. for the girls race and 10:15 a.m. for the boys race.

The Class 1A State meet will run at 11 a.m. for girls and 11:45 a.m. for boys

The Class 2A State meet will be held at 12:30 p.m. for the girls race and 1:15 p.m. for the boys race.

Awards will be 11:45 a.m. for Class 3A, 1:15 p.m. for Class 1A and 2:45 p.m. for Class 2A.
