Junior High Cross Country -- Area Athletes Do Well At State Tournaments

NORMAL -- Area athletes did well at the Class 1A, Class 2A and Class 3A junior high state cross country meets at Maxwell Park Saturday.

Effingham Sacred Heart's Isabella Keller competed in the Class 1A girls meet and finished second with a time of 12:04.4. First in the State Meet went to Pekin St. Joseph's Morgan Coker with a time of 11:48.7.

Also competing in the Class 1A girls meet was Effingham St. Anthony as a team. Nora Trupiano finished in seventh place with a time of 12:18.5. Also competing were Reese Hoene, 44th in 13:33.3; Maggie Brent 159th in 15:06.1, Jada Carpenter 165th in 15:13.4, Addison Jones 209th in 16:06.5 and Gianna Frisbie 214th in 16:23.6. The Bullpups finished 15th as a team with 176 points.

Brimfield claimed the team championship with 57 points.

Sigel St. Michael competed as a team and finished 22nd with 539 points. Competing for the Sharpshooters were Nancy Ruholl 71st in 13:54.4, Nora Bueker 132nd in 14:34.6, Brooklyn Will 171st in 15:16.4, Sophia Cremens 176th in 15:19.3 and Natalie Ballinger 223rd in 17:45.5.

In the Class 1A Boys State Meet, Effingham Sacred Heart's Julius Ramos finished fourth in 11:27.5. Winning was Maxwell Kirby from Morton Blessed Sacrament with a time of 10:40.0. Morton won the team championship with 80 points. Sacred Heart's Daniel Ramos finished 108th in 12:48.0.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City competed as a team and finished 23rd with 569 points. August Cosart got 92nd in 12:38.6, Deacon Sutter 176th in 13:36.6, Hayden Sarver 179th in 13:40.1, Slade Rauch 191st in 13:51.2, Porter Lilly 204th in 14:12.2 and Charlie Willenborg 224th in 16:29.4.

Effingham St. Anthony's Camden Bloemer finished 158th in 13:16.6 and Mike Fearday was 198th in 14:01.5.

In the Class 2A State Meet, two area boys competed. Cumberland's Cameron Roedl finished 17th in 11:36.6 while Jasper County's Hayden Borgic was 67th in 12:13.5.

Winning the team title was Chicago St. Benedict with 54 points. First went to Metamora's Zack Born in 11:00.8.

In the Class 3A State Meets, Effingham's Alex Gordon took 32nd in 11:35.1 in the boys meet. First went to Woodridge Jefferson's Phillip Cupial in 10:41.8.

In the girls meet, Effingham's Baylee Summers was 86th in 13:15.3, Drew Weis 106th in 13:26.2 and Emery Spicer 134th in 13:41.1.

Winning the State individual title was Chatham Glenwood's Ashlyn Chopra in 11:52.2.
