EHS Girls Fourth, Boys Sixth At Apollo Conference C.C. Meets

Effingham High School claimed fourth place in the girls and sixth place in the boys Apollo Conference Cross Country Meets Tuesday.

In the girls meet, Mount Zion won with 38 points followed by Mahomet-Seymour 39, Lincoln 100, Effingham 101, Taylorville 130 and Charleston 133. Mattoon competed but did not have enough runners for a team score.

Lincoln's Becca Heitzig was the individual champion with a time of 18:04.9. She was followed in the top five by Sofia Munoz (Mount Zion), 19:09.3, Ava Boyd (Mahomet-Seymour, 19:13.0, Jessica Larson (Effingham), 19:36.0 and Chloe Bundren (Mahomet-Seymour), 19:39.7.

Overall finish for the Hearts were Larson followed by Haddie Hill 23rd in 21:28.7, Morgan Springer 24th in 21:29.2, Kayleigh Koester 25th in 21:49.5, Allison Miller 40th in 23:28.7, Audrey Wagoner 56th in 28:06.6 and Gracie Eaton 61st in 29:59.1.

In the boys meet, Mahomet-Seymour captured first with 29 points, easily outdistancing the rest of the field that included Taylorville 77, Mount Zion 86, Lincoln 109, Mattoon 115, Effingham 124 and Charleston 165,

The individual champion was Joseph Scheel of Mahomet-Seymour with a time of 15:46.2. Others in the top five were Brenden Heitzig of LIncoln in 15:50.6, Brock Davee of Mattoon in 15:58.7, Kyle Nofziger of Mahomet-Seymour in 16:00.4 and Jonah Singer of Mahomet-Seymour in 16:20.5.

Effingham's top finisher was Andrew Donaldson eighth in 16:33.8. Also scoring for the Hearts were Garrett Wagoner 20th in 17:33.9, Adam Flack 27th in 17:57.4, Jon Perry 43rd in 19;11.2 and Aaron Hill 47th in 19:46.7. Other EHS runners were Sam Spicer 48th in 19:57.2 and Payton Bushue 60th in 22:20.2.
