Newton, T-town Are Cross Country Winners

NEWTON -- Teutopolis High School nabbed a boys triangular cross country meet while Newton won the girls dual meet Thursday.

In boys competition, the Wooden Shoes tallied 36 points followed by Effingham 45 and Newton 47. Casey-Westfield did not have enough members for a team score.

Casey-Westfield's Cort Ross finished first with a time of 14:50. Newton's top runner was Nick Zwilling in second with a time of 15:05. Effingham's Alfredo Lopez was third with 16:03.

T-town's Ethan Weidner finished fifth in 16:36 followed by Matthew Deters sixth in 16:83, Cole Probst seventh in 17:20, Kendall Tabbert 11th in 17:53 and Brody Mette 12th in 17:55.

In the girls meet, Newton won with 22 points followed by Teutopolis 37. Effingham and Casey-Westfield had runners but not enough for team scores.

Newton's Abby Steele won with a time of 18:21. T-town's Jessica Runde was second in 18:46. Casey-Westfield's Payton Barr took third in 19:39. Effingham's Kylie Weaver finished seventh in 20:16.

Also scoring for the Eagles were Rylea Borgic fourth in 19:47, Payton Kinder sixth in 20:11, Lucy Yager 11th in 21:17 and Claire Carr 13th in 21:22.
