EIU Adds Carr, Three Other Runners to C.C. Squad

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois cross country coach Erin Howarth has announced the addition of four runners for the Panthers squads for next year.  Trevor Murphy will be joining the men’s team while Sarah Carr, Audrey Hancock and Katie Springer will be new additions to the women’s team.

 

Carr runs at Effingham St. Anthony HS where she was a IHSA Class 1A State Qualifier as a junior.  During her junior season she placed 76th at the state championship with a 3-mile time of 19:24.  Her top time during her senior season was 18:38.9.  She was 9th at the Robinson Regional and 44th at the Decatur St. Teresa Sectional.  Carr was a two-event state qualifier in track advancing to the IHSA Class 1A State Championship in both the 800 meter and 1600 meter events as a junior.

Hancock runs at Tolono Unity HS where she advanced with her team to four straight IHSA Class 1A State Championships with the team claiming the title during her freshman and junior seasons.  Hancock scored points all four seasons at the state championship with her best finish coming as a sophomore when she was 41st with a time of 18:41.  She placed 53rd during her senior season with a 70th place finish as a junior and 53rd place finish as a freshman.  Hancock runs the 1600 meter and 3200 meter events in track.

Springer runs at Delavan HS where she advanced as an individual to the IHSA Class 1A State Championships as a junior.  She placed 27th at the state championship with a time of 18:27.  As a senior her best 3-mile time of the season was 18:22.5.  She would place fourth at the Macomb Regional as a senior.  In track Springer was multiple event All-State performer as a junior.  She placed fifth in the state in the 300 meter hurdles with a finals time of 46.75.  She was 12th in the state in the 800 meter run with a finals time of 2:20.96.

 

Murphy runs at Downers Grove North HS where he was a IHSA Class 3A State Qualifier as a senior.  He placed 70th at the state championship with a 3-mile time of 15:12.2.  Murphy placed 19th at the Chicago Marist Sectional with a time of 15:15.  He would end his competitive season running at the NXR Midwest Regional and Mid-East Championships.  He placed 36th at the Mid-East Championship.  He was 71st at the NXR Midwest Regional with a 5K time of 16:14.6.
