Area Teams, Individuals Advance To Cross Country State

DECATUR -- Teutopolis and Cumberland advanced teams while individuals from Newton and Neoga will be heading to the Class 1A State Cross Country Meet after sectionals Saturday.

In the Class 1A Decatur St. Teresa Girls Sectional Saturday, Teutopolis captured fifth place as a team and will advance as the top five teams and top seven runners, not members of qualifying teams, head to State.

Winning the sectional was Tolono Unity with 47 followed by St. Joseph-Ogden 105, Monticello 114, Urbana University 164, Teutopolis 172, Decatur St. Teresa 239, Litchfield 239, Lawrenceville 241, Shelbyville 263, Staunton 288, Neoga 332, Newton 351. Robinson 381, Effingham St. Anthony 383, Auburn 398, Tuscola 426, Cumberland 433, Fithian Oakwood 444, Moweaqua Central A&M 474, Altamont 479 and Carlinville 491.

Heading to State for Teutopolis are Morgan Mette who finished 23rd with a time of 19:32, Jessica Runde who finished 24th in 19:32, Rebecca Habing who finished 34th in 19:57, Kaitlyn Schumacher who finished 37th in 20:01, Abby Bloemer who finished 76th in 21:31, Katie Kingery who finished 109th in 22:43 and Kylie Hoelscher who finished 142nd in 25:01.

Also advancing individually was Newton's Abby Stone who finished ninth with a time of 19:47. Other individuals advancing are Lydia Roller (Staunton) who captured first in 17:23.90, Fran Hendrickson of Champaign St. Thomas More who was second in 17:56, Ailey Mitchell and Gabrielle Spain from Shelbyville who finished third and fourth in 18:03 and 18:13, Veronica Hein who took 11th in 18:58 and Bella Ramshaw (Champaign St. Thomas More) who finished 13th in 19:06.

In the boys meet, Cumberland advanced as a team with a fifth place finish. Winning was Monticello 62 followed by Robinson 97, Urbana University 110, Marshall 179, Cumberland 192, St. Joseph-Ogden 197, Tolono Unity 217, Carlinville 235, Effingham St. Anthony 253, Tuscola 290, Teutopolis 299, Lawrenceville 311, Shelbyville 313, Neoga 340, Auburn 395, Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond 437, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 472, Moweaqua Central A&M 494, Altamont 497, Champaign St. Thomas More 511 and Wood River-East Alton 605.

Members of the Cumberland team advancing are Kort McClellan who took 14th in 16:10, Blake Sutherland who finished 37th in 16:44, Rayce Zike who finished 54th in 17:05, Michael Carpenter who finished 55th in 17:06, Logan Edwards who finished 73rd in 17:25, Wiley Peters who finished 117th in 18:27 and Joel Heynen who finished 142nd in 19:54.

Advancing individually are Reece Johnson of Neoga who finished ninth in 15:53 and Noah Probst of Teutopolis who finished 11th in 15:56. Also advancing were Jackson Stewart (Decatur St. Teresa) third in 15:31, Cort Ross (Casey-Westfield) fourth in 15:33, Cameron Woodard (Tolono Unity) sixth in 15:41, Layton Hall (Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond) seventh in 15:43 and Isiah McCune (St. Joseph-Ogden) eighth in 15:48.

Winning the meet was Monticello's Garrett Dixon with a time of 15:15.39.

The qualifiers head to state this Saturday at Detweiler Park in Peoria. The 1A girls meet will begin at 9 a.m. and the boys meet starts at 10 a.m.

Class 2A Decatur MacArthur Sectional

The Effingham High School girls cross country squad competed at Decatur MacArthur Saturday.

Winning the sectional was Chatham Glenwood 43 followed by Waterloo 93, Highland 107, Mount Zion 123, Carbondale 162, Breese Mater Dei 187, Urbana 222, Troy Triad 224, Springfield 236, Mascoutah 249, Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin 261 and Mattoon 290. Effingham scored 438 points.

Advancing individaully were Chian Scott (Urbana) fifth in 18:53, Mikayla Hady (Springfield SHG) sixth in 18:58, Alyssa Kowalski (Troy Triad) seventh in 19:00, Quincy Collings (Mattoon) 12th in 19:13, Summer Chief (Mount Vernon) 13th in 19:15, Cheyenne Finely (Centralia) 21st in 19:29 and Kylie Haacke (Mattoon) 23rd in 19:33.

Winning the meet was Waterloo's Jenna Schwartz with a time of 17:24.08.

Effingham's top finisher was Miranda Fox 46th in 20:15.21. Also competing for the Hearts were Kiley Weaver 73rd in 20:51.97, Daelyn Dunston 78th in 21:06.29, Nicole Schneiderjon 109th in 22:24.05, Hope Monnet 132nd in 23:42.07, Becca Webster 133rd in 24:38.26 and Madison Tilford 134th in 24:57.04.
