Area Individuals, T-town Team Advance to State

CARLINVILLE -- Teutopolis High School advanced as a team from the Class 1A Carlinville Cross Country Sectional Saturday along with three area runners.

St. Joseph-Ogden won the girls sectional with 56 points followed by Tolono Unity 59, Champaign St. Thomas More 92, Staunton 190, Teutopolis 198, Litchfield 224, Lawrenceville 245, Neoga 261, Cumberland 278, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 287, Effingham St. Anthony 310 and Roxana 322.

Winning the meet was St. Thomas More's Fran Hendrickson, a sophomore, with a time of 17:44.05.

Advancing from sectional action are the top five teams and top seven individuals, not members of qualitying teams.

Members of the Teutopolis team are Kara Weichman who finished 18th with a time of 18:49, Jessica Runde 28th in 19:36, Rebecca Habing 34th in 20:04, Morgan Mette 45th in 20:28, Jenelle Vogt 94th in 22:243, Ashley Bressendorf 123rd in 23:44 and Micah McWhorter 125th in 23:51.

Advancing as individuals were St. Anthony's Sarah Carr who finished 16th in 18:43, Cumberland's Jasmyn Dittamore who finished ninth in 18:32 and Neoga's Emmalyn Walk who finished 20th in 18:54.

In the boys meet, Cumberland finished just out of the teams advancing in sixth. Winning was St. Joseph-Ogden 99, Robinson 137, Urbana University 142, Carlinville 151, Lawrenceville 183, Cumberland 216, Champaign St. Thomas More 217, Tuscola 254, Glen Carbon Father McGivney 266, Effingham St. Anthony 267, Marshall 281 and Tolono Unity 302.

Despite finishing out of the teams advancing, Cumberland's Kort McClellan, a junior, finished seventh in 15:45 and will advance to state.

The State Finals are scheduled for Saturday, November 4 at Peoria's Detweiller Park. The Class 1A girls will run at 9 a.m. with the boys at 10 a.m. The Class 2A girls will compete at 11 a.m. with the boys at noon.

Class 2A Decatur MacArthur Sectional

Effingham competed as a team in the Class 2A Decatur MacArthur Girls Sectional.

Winning the sectional was Waterloo with 105 points followed by Springfield 105, Chatham Glenwood 115, Troy Triad 116, Mascoutah 140, Highland 148, Mount Zion 195, Carbondale 198, Mattoon 212, Charleston 253, Springfield Sacred Heart Griffin 271 and Effingham 332.

Winning the individual championship was Waterloo's Jenna Schwartz with a time of 17:20.15.

Waterloo, Springfield, Chatham Glenwood, Troy Triad and Mascoutah advance as teams. Mattoon's Quincy Collings advanced as an individual with a time of 18:39 while Charleston's Megan Garrett will also compete at state with a time of 18:42.

Finishing for Effingham were Abby Weis 60th in 20:14.29; Kourtney Cordes 61st in 20:16.57; Kiley Weaver 64th in 20:18.27; Miranda Fox 69th in 20:37.07; Meredith Kull 112th in 22:20.34 and Keira Hirtzel 127th in 23:34.01.
