Area Teams Advance to Cross Country Sectionals

Several high school cross country teams and individuals advanced from regional competition to sectionals after Saturday action.

Class 1A St. Anthony Regional

Effingham St. Anthony and Teutopolis both have boys and girls teams heading to sectional action along with the Dieterich girls. There are also individuals from Dieterich, Newton, Altamont and North Clay (Louisville).

In the boys meet, Robinson won the team championship with 43 points followed by Lawrenceville 76, Glen Carbon Father McGivney 90, St. Anthony 92, Teutopolis 132, Roxana 165, Hutsonville 175, Newton 244, Dieterich 248, East Alton-Wood River 269, Greenville 299, Edwardsville Metro East Lutheran 343, Altamont 362, Alton Marquette 387 and North Clay 391.

Hutsonville's Negus Board won the meet with a time of 15:43.18. T-town's Noah Probst finished 10th in 16:54.30.

Teams advancing are Robinson, Lawrenceville, Glen Carbon Father McGivney, St. Anthony, Teutopolis, Roxana and Hutsonville.

Individuals advancing that are not members of a team advancing, are Dieterich's Ryan Radloff with a time of 17:33, Newton's Tucker Rieman in 17:35 and Victor Sandschafer in 17:53 and North Clay's Coy Crull in 18:14.

In the girls meet, Lawrenceville won with 49 points followed by Teutopolis 56, Roxana 82, St. Anthony 90, Dieterich 116, Newton 117 and Edwardsville Metro-East Lutheran 186.

Winning the regional title was St. Anthony's Sarah Carr with a time of 19:28.22. Newton's Abby Stone was third in 19:42.37 while T-town took the fourth and fifth spots as Kara Weichman finished in 19:48.62 and Jessica Runde had a time of 20:04.42. The Wooden Shoes' Morgan Mette and Rebecca Habing finished eighth and ninth. Mette had a time of 20:42.11 and Habing 21:04.47.

Teams advancing were Lawrenceville, Teutopolis, Roxana, St. Anthony, Dieterich, Newton and Edwardsville Metro East Lutheran.

The lone individual advancing from the area was Altamont's Gia Sandoval in 21:28.

Teams and individuals advancing will head to the Carlinville Sectional Saturday, October 28. The girls race is scheduled at 10 a.m. with the boys race at 11 a.m. at the Macoupin County Fairgrounds.

Class 1A Shelbyville Regional

Cumberland captured second place while Neoga was fifth in the Class 1A Shelbyville Boys Cross Country Meet. Neoga, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City and Cumberland advanced as teams in the girls meet.

Winning the boys regional was Carlinville 56 followed by Cumberland 77, Marshall 99, Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond 113, Neoga 142, Casey-Westfield 154, Litchfield 163, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 188, Sullivan 213,  Piasa Southwestern 233 and Staunton 246.

Carlinville, Cumberland, Marshall, ALAH, Neoga, Casey-Westfield and Litchfield advance as teams.

Advancing individually was Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City's Dylan Taylor with a time of 17:27.

Neoga's Reece Johnson took third place with a time of 16:10.24 while Cumberland's Kort McClellan was fifth in 16:17.09; Blake Sutherland, also from Cumberland, finished ninth in 16:36.67.

In the girls meet, Staunton was the team champion with 52 points followed by Neoga 67, Litchfield 83, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 92, Cumberland 99, Moweaqua Central A&M 154, Shelbyville 168 and PIasa Southwestern 198.

Advancing teams were Staunton, Neoga, Litchfield, CHBC, Cumberland, Moweaqua Central A&M and Shelbyville.

Winning the meet was Staunton's Lydia Roller with a time of 18:08.96. Cumberland's Jasmyn Dittamore took third in 18:29.72. Neoga had three runners in the top 10. Emmalyn Walk finished fifth in 19:17.34 while Courtney Reel was eighth in 19:57.61 and Kyla Phillips was ninth in 20:22.88. Cumberland's Victoria Ault finished out the top 10 with a time of 29:39.51.

Teams and individuals advancing will head to the Carlinville Sectional Saturday, October 28.with the girls running at 10 a.m. and the boys competing at 11 at the Macoupin County Fairgrounds.

Class 3A Charleston Regional

Effingham High School's girls team advanced while two individuals from the boys team will be heading to sectional action from the Charleston Regional.

Winning the girls team title was Mount Zion 50 followed by Charleston 60, Mattoon 68, Effingham 76, Danville 143, Olney 148 and Champaign Centennial 149.

Advancing teams are Mount Zion, Charleston, Mattoon, Effingham, Danville and Olney.

Danville's Shanice Garbutt took first with a time of  17:58.20. Effingham's Abby Weis finished ninth in 20:33.56. Miranda Fox took 11th in 20:38.48 and Kiley Weaver was 12th in 20:39.13.

In the boys meet, Danville won with 53 points followed by Mount Zion 63, Charleston 768, Olney 72, Champaign Centennial 124, Mattoon 160, Decatur MacArthur 177 and Effingham 194.

Danville, Mount Zion, Charleston, Olney, Champaign Centenial and Mattoon advance as teams.

Effingham's Alfredo Lopez finished 25th in 18:01 while Patrick Sherrod was 36th in 18:50 and advance as individuals.

Winning the meet was Charleston's Nick Oakley with a time of 15:35.11.

The Effingham runners will compete at the Decatur MacArthur Sectional Saturday, October 28 with the girls at 10 a.m. and the boys at 11 a.m. at Hickory Point Golf Course.
