Sharp Captures 30th Place At State

PEORIA -- Altamont High School junior, Andrew Sharp, captured 30th place in the Class 1A State Boys Cross Country Meet Saturday at Detwiler Park.

Sharp finished with a time of 15:35. Winning the individual title was Grant Nykaza of Beecher with a time of 14:22. Following Nykaza in the top five were Jake Brown (Mount Zion) in 14:40, Nick Hess (Champaign St. Thomas More) in 15:01, Chad French (Canton) in 15:02 and Ethan Adilfinger (Rock Island Alleman) in 15:03 along with Jesse Hahn (Danville Schlarman) in 15:03.

Champaign St. Thomas More claimed the team championship with 82 points followed by Elmwood 157, Shelbyville 162, Rock Island Alleman 177, Richmond-Burton 181, Mount Zion 206, Winnebago 213, Rochester 233, Byron 243, Pleasant Plains 295, Monticello 298, Sterling Newman Central Catholic 351, Tolono Unity 354, Ottawa Marquette 376, Chicago Latin 393, Freeburg 397, Stanford Olympia 401, Johnsburg 414, Sparta 423, Westmont 440, Tremont 453, Edwardsville Metro-East Lutheran 494, Herrin 602, Niles Northridge Prep 631 and Salem 678.

In the girls meet, Cumberland sophomore Leah Hutchinson finished in 121st place with a time of 19:55. Shelbyville's Molly Yockey came in 78th with a time of 19:18. Winning the meet was Ivy Handley (Decatur St. Teresa) in 17:24 followed in the top five by Regan Weidner (Manlius Bureau Valley) in 17:45, Rachel Devereux (Decatur St. Teresa) in 17:46, Madeline Lager (Breese Mater Dei) in 17:50 and Naomi Springer (Stanford Olympia) in 17:51.

Winning the team title was Decatur St. Teresa with 41 points followed by Monticello 114, Rochester 125, Rock Falls 150, Petersburg PORTA 205, Downs Tri-Valley 239, Byron 285, Winnebago 285, Breese Mater Dei 288, St. Joseph-Ogden 291, Elmwood 294, Rockford Lutheran 317, Monmouth-Roseville 330, Johnsburg 337, Henry-Senachwine 341, Carterville 420, Kankaee McNamara 424, Chicacgo Latin 433, Champaign St. Thomas More 446, Tolono Unity 461, Freeburg 513, Roxena 534, Edwardsville Metro-East Lutheran 557, Richmond-Burton 603 and Beecher 633.

In the 2A boys meet, Chicago Jones claimed first place in the team category. Charleston finished 19th. John Wold of Glen Ellyn Glenwood West captured the individual title in 14:16.

In the girls 2A meet, Yorkville took first place while Mattoon finished 20th. Victoria Clinton of Clinton Maple Park Kaneland won the individual title in 16:56.

In the 3A girls meet, Naperville North was the team champion while Madeline Perez of Glen Ellyn Glenbard West won in 16:02.

In the boys 3A meet, Elmhurst York took the team title while Jack Keelan of Chicago St. Ignatius College won the individual championship in 14:05.
