T-town Advances To Sectional Title Game

Teutopolis High School advanced to the championship game of the Class 2A Casey-Westfield Girls Basketball Sectional after winning Tuesday evening.

The Wooden Shoes downed Harrisburg 55-36. T-town edged out to a 10-7 opening quarter lead and led 24-18 at halftime. The Shoes then had a 15-6 third quarter run to salt the contest away.

Cierra Thompson tallied 19 points to lead the Shoes. Two other players hit double digits, Hartke with 13 and Schumacher with 12.

In the opening game of the evening, Mount Carmel pounded Sullivan 78-43. Tyra Buss scored 50 points for the winners as they took a 46-20 halftime lead.

T-town will take on Mount Carmel at 7 p.m. Thursday for the sectional championship.

Tickets -- All tickets will be sold Wednesday at the Teutopolis High School main office. There will be a limited amount of reserved seats to be sold Wednesday. At 9 a.m., tournament players and managers. Then the other girl and boy basketball players. Other girl players may purchase a ticket for themselves and for each parent.

During lunch hour the student body may purchase one ticket each. Staff may purchase tickets from 1-3 p.m. General public may purchase tickets from 4-5 p.m. All tickets are $5 each.

Effingham Regional

The Class 3A Effingham Regional got underway Tuesday evening after being postponed due to weather Monday.

In the opening contest, Olney claimed a 57-44 win over Shelbyville. Shipman tallied 22 and Miller 12 for the winners. Shelbyville was led by Burton with 22.

In the second game, Mattoon edged Charleston 60-55. The Trojans led 33-28 at halftime before Mattoon came back with a 15-9 third quarter run and pulled out the victory. Sa. Thompson tallied 18 for the winners while Bath chipped in with 12. Charleston was led by Rennels with 18 and Sherwood with 10.

Olney advances to face top-seeded Effingham tonight at 6 while Mattoon squares off against No. 2 Salem at 8.
