TAYLORVILLE -- Effingham High School dropped its third loss of the season as Taylorville claimed a 39-35 non-conference girls basketball victory Tuesday evening.

The Hearts took a 12-11 opening quarter lead but Taylorville came back to lead 20-18. The Tornadoes then had a 14-11 third period run and held off a fnal quarter challenge by the Hearts.

Efifngham was led by Josie Zerrusen with 20 points. The Hearts drop to 25-3 on the season.

"This was a tough loss for us," said EHS Coach Jeff Schafer. "We played good enough defense to win the game but just did not execute well enough on offense to get the job done. We battled hard, we just have to come out attacking more and not try to be perfect. We have to relax and play."

The Hearts will play host to Olney Thursday evening for Senior Night festivities.
