Effingham Advances In Hillsboro Frosh Tourney, T-town Downs St. A For Neoga Title

HILLSBORO -- Effingham advanced to the championship game of the Hillsboro Boys Freshman Basketball Tournament after a victory Monday evening.

The Hearts defeated Auburn 57-41. EHS led 27-17 at halftime and by 20 points going into the final quarter. Jacob  Donaldson led the way with 20 points while Brent Beals tallied 12 and Cory Osborn 11.

The Hearts will face either Vandalia or Pana Thursday at 8 p.m. for the championship. Vandalia plays Pana Wednesday at 7:15. In consolation bracket play, Hillsboro will take on the winner of the Taylorville vs. Marquette contest for the consolation championship Thursday at 5:30 p.m. Taylorville and Marquette meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday. The third place contest will feature Auburn against either  Vandalia or Pana at 6:45 p.m. Thursday.

At Neoga

Teutopolis claimed the championship of the Neoga Freshman/Sophomore Boys Basketball Tournament Monday.

T-town defeated St. Anthony 62-38. The Wooden Shoes held a 32-25 halftime lead then had a 21-4 third quarter run.

T-town was led by D. Smith and Johnson with 13 points each. St. Anthony was led by Gibson with eight points.
