Stew-Stras, St. Michael Claim Regional Titles

Stewardson-Strasburg and Sigel St. Michael captured regional championships in junior high boys basketball competition  Monday evening.

Class 8-1A Stew-Stras Regional

Stew-Stras captured its own regional championship by jumping out to a 20-2 opening quarter lead on Windsor and going on for a 51-25 victory.

Kessler tallied 22 points while Thies scored 11 for Stew-Stras who improves to 15-6 on the season. Windsor was led by G. Bennett with eight points.

Stew-Stras advances to its own sectional and will face Sigel St. Michael Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Class 8-1A Effingham Sacred Heart Regional

Sigel St. Michael claimed a 29-20 victory over Palestine to win the championship of the Sacred Heart Regional Monday.

The score was tied at 6-6 after the opening quarter but trailed Palestine 11-8 at halftime. St. Michael then came back to outscore Palestine 11-4 in the third quarter and held on for the victory.

Wolke tallied 11 to lead the winenrs while Kreke added eight. Palestine was led by Williams with 12.

St. Michael will advance to the Stew-Stras Sectional Wednesday to face host Stew-Stras at 6 p.m.

Class 8-3A Sullivan Regional

Teutopolis handed Shelbyville Moulton a 40-21 loss to claim the championship of the Sullivan Regional.

T-town trailed Moulton 10-7 after one period but T-town came back to take a 17-15 halftime lead then held Moulton scoreless in the third period while running up a 28-15 lead.

Collin Funneman tallied 13, Lee Hardiek 12 and Eric Kremer 10 for the Shoes.

T-town advances to the Sullivan Sectional and will take on the Paris Mayo Regional winner Wednesday at 6 p.m.

In the Paris Mayo Regional, Casey-Westfield and Marshall advanced to the championship of the regional tonight at 6:30. Casey-Westfield defeated Red Hill (Bridgeport) 43-33 and Marshall won over Jasper County 45-28.

Class 8-3A Sullivan Regional

St. Anthony will be competing in the St. Elmo Sectional Wednesday. Class 8-2A St. Elmo Sectional

Effingham St. Anthony will take on Nokomis in the St. Elmo Sectional Wednesday at 6 p.m. The winner advances to the state tournament.

 

Class 8-4A Tolono Unity Sectional

Effingham will face Danville North Ridge in the Tolono Unity Sectional Wednesday at 6 p.m. The winner advances to the state tournament.
