Girls High School Regionals Set To Begin Monday

High School girls Class 1A and 2A basketball regionals are set to get underway Monday around the state.

Effingham St. Anthony will be competing in the Class 1A Altamont Regional along with Dieterich, St. Elmo/Brownstown, Ramsey and host Altamont. The Bulldogs are seeded No. 1 in the regional and won't play until Wednesday when they square off against the winner of the Dieterich vs. Ramsey contest. The championship is scheduled for Thursday, February 13 and the winner advances to the Cumberland Sectional Monday, February 17.

South Central and North Clay (Louisville) will be competing in the Class 1A Red Hill (Bridgeport) Regional. South Central, seeded fifth, meets fourth-seeded Oblong Monday at 7 p.m. Top-seeded North Clay will face the winner of that contest Tuesday at 6 p.m. Also entered are Palestine/Hutsonville and Red Hill (Bridgeport).

Neoga and Cumberland will compete as Cumberland plays host to a 1A regional. Cumberland, seeded sixth, will face third-seeded Okaw Valley at 8 p.m. Monday. No. 2 Neoga will face the winner of that contest Tuesday at 8 p.m. Also entered are Kansas, Martinsville and top-seeded Arcola.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City is the third seed at the Class 1A Nokomis Regional. The Hornets face No. 2 Nokomis at 8 p.m. Tuesday. Moweaqua Central A&M drew the top seed. Also entered are No. 4 Pawnee and No. 5 Kincaid South Fork.

Two teams compete in Class 2A and those are Teutopolis and Newton. Both will be competing in the Vandalia Regional. Fourth-seeded Newton will take on fifth-seeded Vandalia at 7 p.m. Monday. T-town drew the No. 1 seed and will face the winner of that contest at 6 p.m. Tuesday. In the second game Tuesday, No. 2 Greenville faces No. 3 Flora at 8.

The Class 3A and 4A pairings will be posted at 4 p.m. Friday on the Illinois High School Association website.
