Illinois Loses To Wisconsin

(Champaign, IL) -- Sam Dekker and Ben Brust each tallied 16 points as the Wisconsin Badgers rolled to a 75-63 victory over the Illinois Fighting Illini in a Big Ten Conference tilt at State Farm Center.

Traevon Jackson netted 14 points and pulled down seven rebounds for Wisconsin (18-5, 5-5 Big Ten), which ends a two-game losing streak. Nigel Hayes also chipped in 14 points in the winning effort.

Rayvonte Rice led all scorers in the contest with 24 points for Illinois (13-10, 2-8), adding nine rebounds to his state line. Joseph Bertrand chipped in 11 points and Nnanna Egwu added 10 in the loss. The Illini have lost eight consectuvie games.

Wisconsin shot 47.8 percent from the floor in the first half, including 4-of-11 from 3-point range, and took a 36-30 lead into the midway break. Illinois wasn't too far behind Wisconsin's total, shooting 44 percent in the frame.

The Badgers maintained a steady pace out of the intermisison, once again connecting on 47.8 percent of their field goal tries in the second half. The Illini dropped their shooting percentage to 37 in the period.

Wisconsin had the edge in bench points, 19-5, and outscored Illinois from 3-point range, 30-12. The Illini had the advantage in points in the paint, 30-18.


College Basketball Roundup

Northern Illinois picked up a 53-41 win over Miami-Ohio last night. UIC is back in action tonight at Green Bay. Northwestern is off until Saturday when it hosts Nebraska at Welsh-Ryan Arena. Notre Dame also plays Saturday at home against North Carolina.


Florida To Hot For Missouri

(Gainesville, FL) -- The Tigers lost 68-58 last night against the fourth-ranked Florida Gators for their second consecutive loss. Missouri led 28-25 at half but could not stop Florida late as the Gators won their fourteenth straight game. Junior Jabari Brown's 15 points led the Tigers as Missouri falls to 16-and-6 on the season and eighth in the SEC. The Tigers are back in action Saturday on the road against Ole Miss.


KU Rolls Past Baylor

(Waco, TX) -- Naadir Tharpe had 22 points as ninth-ranked Kansas rolled past Baylor 69-52 last night in Waco. Andrew Wiggins and Perry Ellis each added 14 points for the Jayhawks, who improved to 17-5 with an 8-1 Big 12 mark. KU hosts West Virginia Saturday.


Duke Routs Wake Forest

(Durham, NC) -- Jabari Parker racked up 21 points and eight rebounds to lead Duke to an 83-63 rout of Wake Forest at Cameron Indoor Stadium. Rasheed Sulaimon added 19 points and Andre Dawkins had 17 off the bench for the Blue Devils, who improved to 18-5 on the season and 7-3 in ACC action. Duke travels to Boston College Saturday.
