VIDEO: St. Anthony, Effingham Pick Up Girls Basketball Victories, Area Roundup

Effingham St. Anthony High School  had 11 players score in downing Ramsey 68-41 in a non-conference girls basketball contest Monday evening at The Enlow Center.

The Bulldogs didn't waste any time as they ripped out to an 18-4 opening quarter lead and led 40-8 at halftime. Nuxoll tallied 14 points while Wendt scored 10. Walsh chipped in with nine.

Ramsey had only three players score in the contest and they all finished in double figures. Joliff tallied 19, S. Kimberlin 12 and Zimmerman 10.

At Paris

Effingham got back on the winning track by trouncing Paris 47-28 in Apollo Conference action Monday evening.

"We bounced back really nice tonight," said EHS Coach Jeff Schafer. "We didn't shoot the ball that great, but our ball movement was the best it has been all year.  We had 18 baskets with 18 assists. I don't remember that ever happening before. Everybody shared the ball moving it to the right person. Had we shot it better it would have even been better."

The Hearts were led by Caitlin Kaufman with 18 and Josie Zerrusen with 16.

"Josie just played an incredible overall game with 16 points, 11 rebounds, 7 assists, 3 steals, a block and took two charges. Jantzen Michael did a nice job of setting everybody up also. Her court vision and awareness was excellent. Caitlin knocked down six threes and everyone else was solid.

"It was another great effort defensively. It was a good response to Friday's loss. We just have to keep plugging along and keep improving."

The Hearts are now 9-0 in the conference, 25-1 overall.

Brownstown/St. Elmo handed Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City a 70-58 National Trail Conference loss.

The two squads were tied after the opening quarter before CHBC edged ahead 29-21 at halftime. SE/B came back with a 22-17 third period run and then had a 27-14 final quarter surge.

Pruett taliled 18 while Austin added 15 and Fitch 10 for the winners. CHBC was led by Morrison with 24 points.

Dieterich trounced Cumberland 72-34 behind three players hitting 20 points or more. The Maroons took a 47-13 halftime lead.

Courtney Flach led the way with 21 points while Rachel Schmidt and Mallorie Vahling chipped in with 20 each. Vahling led in rebounds with 16 and had seven assists and nine steals. Flach had seven assists and eight steals.

Cumberland was led by Lainey Jackson with 10 points. Dieterich improves to 9-13 on the season.

Breese Mater Dei edged Teutopolis 35-32 in overtime. Mater Dei whipped out to a 13-5 opening quarter lead and led 19-13 at halftime. T-town came back tro pull within 25-21 going into the final period. T-town then tied the score sending the game into overtime.

In the overtime session, Mater Dei outscored the Shoes 5-2 to pull out the win. Theising tallied 10 for the winners. T-town was led by Repking and M. Hartke with seven each.

In a freshman contest, T-town was a 51-43 winner.

Neoga had a big scoring second quarter in downing Altamont 54-41 in National Trail Conference action.

Altamont held a 14-11 first quarter lead but Neoga came back with a 20-7 run. Three players hit double figures for the winners. Jillian Deters and Madison Butler scored 15 points each while E.C. Thies had 14. Thies led in rebounds with seven. Neoga improves to 4-1 in the conference, 17-8 overall.

Altamont was led by M. Ohnesorge with 23.
