ISU Upends Oklahoma State In Stillwater

(Stillwater, OK) -- No. 17 Iowa State outlasted 19th-ranked Oklahoma State in three overtimes for a 98-97 win in Stillwater. DeAndre Kane poured in 26 points with nine assists and nine rebounds while Melvin Ejim added 22 points and 12 boards. Dustin Hogue had 10 points and 14 boards while Georges Niang netted 17 points as ISU improved to 17-4 with a 5-4 Big 12 mark. Le'Bryan Nash ended with 26 points and nine rebounds for the Cowboys while Marcus Smart added 20 points and nine boards. Markel Brown finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds as Oklahoma State dipped to 16-6 with a 4-5 conference record.

 

 

Indiana Tech Drops Overtime Game

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Despite a double-double off the bench from Rontray Chavis, the Indiana Tech men’s basketball team fell to Aquinas in overtime, 77-72, Monday at the Sturrus SFC.

Things got off to a slow start for the Warriors (14-10, 9-7) as Aquinas scored the first five points of the contest. Back-to-back jumpers by John Cooksey and Jeremy Wohltman (Effingham) gave Tech the lead, 8-7 at the 14:31 mark. The Saints (12-12, 9-7) and Warriors traded baskets and the lead for the remainder of the half with Tech taking the largest lead in that time of five points, 23-18, with 6:46 left in the half. The Saints closed the half on an 11-5 run to take a one-point, 29-28 halftime lead.

The Warriors won inside outscoring the Saints 12-8 in the paint while also holding a 6-2 advantage in second chance points. Aquinas won the turnover battle, forcing Tech into nine mistakes and converting them into nine points, while Tech forced eight turnovers, leading to eight points. Thanks to Chavis’ nine rebounds, the Orange and Black outrebounded the home team, 21-16. Jeff Hoskins led the Warriors with seven points while the Saints’ Austin Semple led all scorers with 12 first half points

Wohltman finished with four points, four rebounds, one assist and one steal.


Illinois Faces Wisconsin Tonight

(Champaign, IL) -- Illinois welcomes 24th-ranked Wisconsin to the State Farm Center tonight for a Big Ten tilt. The Fighting Illini fell to 13-9 with a 2-7 conference mark with Saturday's loss to Iowa. The Badgers are 17-and-5 with a 4-and-5 Big Ten mark. Tip is set for 8:00.

 

College Basketball Roundup

In local college hoops last night, DePaul lost 71-59 to Georgetown. Elsewhere, Notre Dame fell short in a 61-55 loss at Syracuse. Northern Illinois plays host to Miami-Ohio tonight while UIC travels to play Green Bay Wednesday. Northwestern is off until Saturday when it hosts Nebraska.


Syracuse Takes Over Top Spot In Latest Hoops Poll

Syracuse is the new number-one team in the nation. The Orange took over the top spot in this week's "USA Today" top-25 college basketball poll after previous number-one Arizona lost at Cal Saturday. Syracuse received all 32 first-place votes. Wichita State is now number-two. Top-ranked Syracuse took care of Notre Dame 61-55 from the Carrier Dome Monday evening.


Villanova Romps Xavier

(Villanova, PA) -- It got ugly in the second half as Villanova cruised to an 81-58 win over Xavier yesterday at The Pavilion. The Musketeers only trailed by six at halftime, but were outscored by 17 in the second 20 minutes. Semaj Christon posted 17 points and four assists as Xavier fell to 15-7 overall and 5-4 in the Big East. They host Providence Saturday.
