EHS Bounces Charleston, Boys Weekend Roundup

CHARLESTON -- Effingham High School bounced Charleston in Apollo Conference boys basketball action for the fourth time this season, 69-47 Friday evening.

The Hearts zipped out to a 19-2 opening quarter lead and never looked back. Leighton Lark knocked down two three-pointers in the quarter and finished with 20 points to lead the Hearts.

Also in double figures was Kevin Daugherty with 16 points. Daugherty had an eight point run in the second period. Isaac Foreman tallied nine points, seven coming in the third period.

Charleston was led by Huddleston with 13 and Bell with 10.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis started off slow, trailing Paxton-Buckley-Loda 12-11 after the opening quarter and 25-23 at halftime. The Wooden Shoes still trailed 35-33 going into the final quarter then had a 15-9 run to pull out a 48-44 victory Friday evening.

Hardiek tallied 18 for the winners while Brett Mette chipped in with 12. Mette led in rebounds with five.The Wooden Shoes improve to 13-7 on the season and are back in action Tuesday at Charleston.

Little Illini Conference Tournament

Olney captured the championship of the Little Illini Conference Tournament Friday evening by downing Casey-Westfield 60-55.

The third place contest went to Lawrenceville over Newton 56-52. In thte consolation championship, Flora won over Marshall 53-43.
