BOYS BASKETBALL

The Effingham freshmen/sophomore basketball teams picked up victories over Olney Saturday.

The Hearts won the freshman game 67-55. Grant Wolfe got Effingham started off in the right direction by scoring nine of the 17 points. He finished with a whopping 31 points connecting on nine field goals, including three trifectas and was seven of nine at the line. Jacob Donaldson contributed 20 points with nine field goals and two of two at the line.

In the sophomore contest, the Hearts won 53-42. EHS trailed 16-13 after one quarter but came back an 18-4 second period run and never looked back.

Drew Vasquez tallied 17 for the Hearts while Brady Jackson added 11.

At St.Anthony

St. Anthony and Altamont split freshman/sophmore contests. Altamont won the freshman game 69-55. Stone tallied 21, Finn 18 and Shepard 13 for the winners. St. Anthony was led by Greene with 17 and Gibson with 14.

In the sophomore game, St. Anthony was a 64-47 winner. The Bulldogs led 31-19 at halftime and never looked back. Martelli scored 19, Hartke 15 and Grunloh 10 for the winners. Altamont was led by Mayhaus with 18 and Deadmond with 11.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Teutopolis scored in the 50 point range in both freshman girls basketball games and claimed wins over Mount Vernon.

In the first game, T-town won 51-34. Four players hit double digits for the Wooden Shoes. Shelby Thompson led with 16 followed by Reagan Drees 12, Christy Hoene 11 and Jamie Sandschafer 10.

In the second game, T-town won 53-31. Sandschafer tallied 13, Drees 12 and Hoene 11 for the winners.
