Dieterich Claims NTC Crown, EJHS, St. A Lose At Greenville

ST. ELMO -- Dieterich claimed the championship of the National Trail Conference Eighth-Grade Boys Basketball Tournament Thursday evening.

Dieterich won over St. Elmo/Brwonstown 50-34. Three players hit double figures with Thoele scoring 11, Radloff 10 and Higgs 10 for the winners. St. Elmo/Brownstown was led by Brown with 15.

In the third place contest, Altamont edged Stewardson-Strasburg 39-36. Altamont led 26-22 at halftime. Stew-Stras outscored Altamont 14-13 in the second half but it wasn't enough.

Altamont was led by even scoring as Stevenson, Pemberrton and Brown scored 10 each. Thies led Stew-Stras with 13.

In the consolation championship, Neoga won over Sigel St. Michael 57-52. Neoga had a two point lead at halftime and led by six going into the final quarter.

Ramert scored 21 for the winners while Hill chipped in with 15. St. Michael was led by Kreke with 24, Althoff with 14 and Wolke with 10.

At Greenville

In the 66th Annual James Burke Memorial Boys Basketball Tournament at Greenville, Effingham and St. Anthony both suffered losses Thursday evening.

Effingham fell to Troy Triad 42-33 while St. Anthony lost to Carlyle, no score listed. There was no report turned in for the St. Anthony game.

The Mustangs led 19-18 at halftime before Triad came out with an 11-2 third quarter run. Effingham pulled within 29-28 before Triad put the contest away. Holcomb led the winners with 11 points while Barbour added 10. Triad improves to 16-2.

Effingham was led by Sandifer with 12 points and six steals. Hull had seven rebounds and Hill three. The Mustangs drop to 15-3 on the season.

Tonight's contests feature Salem against Greenville at 5 p.m. for the consolation championship followed by Effingham facing St. Anthony for third place at 6 and Triad against Carlyle at 7 for the championship.
