Effingham and St. Anthony squared off against each other in junior high boys basketball competition Wednesday evening.

In seventh-grade play, St. Anthony edged the Mustangs 42-41 in overtime. The Bullpups trailed 16-12 at halftime and 23-21 going into the final quarter then knotted the score, sending the game into overtime.

Blacnhette tallied 18 and Wall 14 for the winners. Wolfe led Effingham with 23. St. Anthony is now 16-1 on the season while Effingham dropped to 14-2.

In eighth-grade action, Effingham edged St. Anthony 39-35. The Bullpups led 9-0 to start the game, 9-6 after the opening quarter and 24-17 at halftime. The Mustangs rallied with a 14-4 run in the third quarter and went on for the win.

Effingham was led by Hull with 17 points and five rebounds. Ryan Sandifer had four steals while Hill led in rebounds with eight. Effingham improves to 15-2. St. Anthony was led by Nuxoll with 13 points.

At Dieterich

Dieterich picked up two wins over Effingham Sacred Heart Wednesday evening.

Dieterich won the seventh-grade contest 36-19. In eighth-grade action, Dieterich claimed a 58-22 win.
