T-town Girls Continue to Win at Highland Tourney, Other Area Scores

HIGHLAND --  Teutopolis Higih School continued its winning ways at the 28th Annual Highland Girls Basketball Tournament.

The Wooden Shoes edged Highland 39-35 in overtime. The Shoes jumped out to a 9-3 first quarter lead and led 16-15 at halftime. Highland then pushed ahead 29-23 going into the final period. The Shoes rallied and knotted the score, sending the game into overtime.

In the overitme period, Thompson nailed two baskets, M. Hartke a bucket and Gebben a three-pointer. Thompson was the lone player for the Shoes in double figures with 19.

In other games Wednesday, in the wininer bracket, Belleville West defeated Carlyle 56-37. Belleville West will now meet Teutopolis at 8 p.m. Friday. In consolation bracket play, Okawville won over Trenton Wesclin 40-36 and O'Fallon defeated Vandalia 52-31. Okawville and O'Fallon meet tonight at 6:30. Also tonight, Belleville Althoff faces Nokomis at 5 and Breese Central takes on Breese Mater Dei at 8.

Little Illini Conference Tournament

In consolation bracket action at the LIC Tournament, Palestine/Hutsonville edged Red Hill (Bridgeport) 29-28 and Lawrenceville won over Casey-Westfield 58-49.

Tonight's final games feature Palestine/Hutsonville against Lawrenceville at 5 p.m. for the consolation championship, Newton takes on Olney at 6:30 for third place and Marshall squares off against Flora for the championship at 8.
