Four games were contested in the Midland Trail Conference Boys Basketball Tournament Tuesday evening.

In the opener, Woodlawn defeated Sandoval 57-40. The second game went to Waltonville over Cisne 48-36. North Clay (Louisville) fell to Odin 67-56 and Wayne City edged Clay City 43-40.

The tournament continues tonight with consolation bracket action. In the opener, Webber Township (Bluford) meets Grayville for ninth place at 5:30 p.m. Sandoval then faces Cisne at 7 p.m. while North Clay takes on Clay City at 8:30. The winners of those two games advance to the consolation championship Friday at 6:30 p.m.

In Thursday winner bracket play, Woodlawn squares off against Waltonville at 6:30 p.m. followed by Odin taking on Wayne City at 8. The winners advance to the title game Saturday at 7 p.m. The losers play for third place Friday at 8 p.m.

 

At Nashville Invitational

Two games were contested in opening round play of the Nashville Invitational Tournament.

Waterloo Gibault downed Mascoutah 63-54 while Breese Central won over Nashville 61-40. Waterloo Gibault faces Breese Central Friday at 6:30 p.m. while Mascoutah and Nashville square off at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

Tonight's games feature Teutopolis against Freeburg at 6:30 followed by Breese Mater Dei taking on Trenton Wesclin at 8.

 

At Neoga

In a regular season contest, Neoga defeated South Central 52-27. The Indians jumped ahead 28-13 at halftime and had a 16-4 third quarter run.

J. Baker led the Indians with 16 points. He was the lone player in double figures in the contest. South Central was led by Riley with eight. Neoga improves to 8-9 overall.

At Palestine

Newton claimed a Little Illini Conference win over Palestine/Hutsonville 55-45. The two teams were tied at 7-7 after the opening quarter but the Eagles pushed ahead 21-8 in the second quarter for a 28-15 halftime lead.

Palestine/Hutsonville came back in the third period with a run of its own to trail onlly 42-36 going into the final quarter. Newton then took a 13-9 run for the victory.

Mamoser and Stone tallied 15 while Chesnut scored 13 for Newton.
