Winners Advance In Elks Hoop Shoot

Six local winners participated in the Elks “Hoop Shoot” at Pana High School Sunday. There were five lodges that participated. The lodges were Pana, Paris, Champaign-Urbana, Effingham and Robinson.

All participants received medallions and first and second place winners received trophies.   

The local “Hoop Shoot” winners were Emily Konkel (Teutopolis) in the eight-nine year old girls category. She hit 14 of 25. Austin Wittenborg (Stewardson-Strasburg) in the eight-nine year old boys category hit 19 of 25.

Natalie Carie (Effingham Sacred Heart) in the 12-13 year old girls category received a plaque for the female athlete who made the most free throws with 20 of 25. Jarret Tharp (Newton) in the 10-11 year old boys category hit 19 of 25.

These four winners will move on to the State Elks “Hoop Shoot” at Decatur Saturday, February 15 and shoot at 9 a.m. at the Jefferson Middle School.   

The other Effingham Elks Lodge #1016 participants and how they placed were:

Hope Bueker (Sigel) in the 10-11 year old category did not place

Donavan Delaney (Altamont) in the 12-13 year old category, tied for second place and hit four of five in the shootoff for second place.
